That's completely normal, if you are familiar with his name is, unfairly, because he was part of Pat Metheny Group. He was more active (specially in First Circle) than just being a guest vocalist: played bass, some keyboards, percussion, guitars and saxophone too; wrote the lyrics and sang Dream of the Return and Más Allá (Beyond), also composed the song Vidala (which is a traditional folk Argentinian style). But well, I say it's unfair because he's got a vast career here as a solo artist, apart from the band Seru Giran. Really worth exploring, the kind of artists that never cease to amaze me.

That's another nice theme song, Kono Machi and that Fuyu no Hainumikaze live concert is Hajime Chitose at her best.

Carnation may be good then, mathematically speaking.

Sound familiar?
Many artists/groups first album is a collection of the best songs in their repertoire, that they have fine tuned for a long time. Second or third albums are often new material of lesser quality. Sophomore Slump.

Yeah but most of those bands on that list are indie bands... and all of those are newer bands too.

Country is always a big stretch for me, but what I'm hearing from the Pistol Annies (Miranda Lambert's girl group) album is pretty impressive so far. Not sure I would want to hear it over and over again though. I'm not much of a song-as-story person, and not that into the meaning of lyrics in general, even if I am able to admire the songwriting here. Also, maybe I'm just not that "down to earth." I'm too much of a clean-cut atheist preacher's kid.

Just heard something off St. Vincent's new album that wasn't "Cheerleader" or "Surgery" on KCRW. The best word I could think of to describe it is nauseating, but I mean that in the best way possible, like it's that way intentionally. I'll definitely check out the rest of the album if the whole thing is this good.

We don't have a "Music in 2011" thread, but I have to say this year has been VERY weak for me, which might be partially due to having stopped following any music blogs because of disinterest in what most of them cover. I've only bought three albums from 2011 so far, and there's only one more I'm eagerly anticipating.

EDIT: KCRW updated their on-air tracklist and it looks like the song was "Dilettante".

Vangelis - Reve - 1979

I was trying to talk about Larry Fast but repeatedly dragged by "Suggestions" video clips.

While listening Synergy I feel distance between new world and old world.

^ I hate how Vangelis' best known song is the overrated Chariots of Fire theme, when he has lesser known music this beautiful.
