How can you NOT enjoy GTA. I can understand if it's not your favourite franchise, but I think it's open enough so that anybody can find something enjoyable to do. Plus, this one is going for more realism with a full living New York (Liberty City), and the best physics engine I've ever seen (Natural Motions 'Euphoria' engine) which is a direction I'm liking,

There's a lot of strange things going on within the later GTA games. The weird missions. The unforgivable "collect boxes, stars, sea shells that's been hidden everywhere in the world!!!11" thing and so on. Heck, they create a splendid world and what do they fill it with, some coin up kind of gameplay?
With this kind of world at my hands I would: * add multiplayer (this would be a game on its own, seeing as singe player has its thing too) * add lots more interaction with the environment and people. I'm thinking about games like Deus Ex, Mafia. Mafia had more of the mood, and Deus Ex more of the smart gameplay that GTA could use. Locations and people and things make a difference and aren't just targets for triggerhappy people. |

GTA4 is fail cuz theyre taking planes out of the game. In San Andreas the funnest thing to do was to go to the airport, get the jumbo jet, and fly it into the biggest building on the map.

The only game I'm really looking forward to is Starcraft 2. There are a couple of RPGs that I'm interested in which were recently released for PS2, but I don't plan on buying them anytime soon.

Well, there IS nothing I would be interested in. I played GTAIII and Vice City, but they bored me very fast. I started San Andreas but after the first cutscene I quit. I couldn't stand that gangsta hip hop nigga style (I don't use the n-word to insult anyone, but you can't deny that it is the most fitting expression to describe that kind of dialogue).
I wouldn't play any of the previous GTA anymore and I don't think that the next one will be able to impress me (although I like that noir style). The concept of what they call "missions" would have to change drastically for that, and I don't even know in which direction.

Anyone ever played the community hacked together multiplayer versions for the PC? It was fun for awhile, but totally crammed with bugs and cheaters, I don't know which was worst. But it was fun gathering a few friends, we went into Vice city, jumped into a helicopter and went around causing havoc. Doing drivebys with the ice cream van... and so on. GANGSTA

As I said, so far every GTA bored me after a short while, so I don't intend to play San Andreas.
I had the most fun with GTA2. The Mulitplayer was awesome.

I agree that GTA gets old fast. However, I think that it's a very fun game before it gets old. The only problem I have with the series is the lame controls. It's the same reason I didn't like Shadow of the Colossus... I don't like the odd way the character moves.

OK I just tried MTA ("Stop playing with yourself", http://mtasa.com/) again after a couple of years. For San Andreas it only has a race mode, and that gets old quite fast, but it has some different modes from racing, like cars/robbers, dogfights and so on. And a really cool scripting engine. But no FFA deathmatch yet :-( It looked quite bugfree so far though.
Edit: Ok back from some more time with this. The multiplayer community sure grew a lot since I last tried it. THere's a ton of roleplaying modes and stuff, for mods other than MTA. Some of them seem really complicated and quite intriguing, but I just don't have the time to put myself into them :-\ You start off with some basic character and should try to earn money by driving people aroudn in taxi and so on, buy weapons, get a job as police man, pull people over, jail them bla bla bla... I spawned in one of the really remote small villages, and there was no car around, so I called for a taxi. AFter awhile someone came with a taxi, and first thing asked me for money to pay the petrol bill. Then we went to the gas station and filled her up... then before paying I "had" to leave the server for awhile. Not sure how that works out. ;-D I guess next time I log on there I'm a wanted, seeing as you can put money on people's heads, and then people hunt them down.
