If I remember correctly, one member thought it was "Misty" with new lyrics written to it. Odd, because Ringo supposedly borrowed lines from that very song. I remember it because I've always found "Misty" kinda boring, so I didn't get especially excited about "You". I do, however, really appreciate Burt Bacharach, and was happy that a western musician recognized her talent. On the subject of misty, I kind of get irritated when people talk about Ella and that's the first thing they talk about because it's the first search result on YouTube. She's sang much better standards, IMO.
By the way, I hate to be a wet blanket I'm still not totally convinced Bacharach wrote the song. After all, we've still only seen information on it from forums and wikipedia (which, when it comes to Ringo information, is generally unreliable). Although, in defense of Wikipedia, I did notice "Toridori." was announced on Wikipedia a few days before a topic was created here.

THATS IT! They wrote on ringohan that You was actually based on Misty with new Ringo penned lyrics for it. I might have mentioned it back in the thread for that performance at the time.

I know that Ringo performed "Misty" in another occasion, in July 7 2008.
I suppose that means Burt gave her the composition rights and she penned new lyrics? Like, if she's going to make a new version of a song, there's usually copyrights involved, aka money, so probably it means that Burt didn't ask money for it, hence offered. |

according to your site you posted shinji, Misty would be the Ella song she performed with Neko and You, as it says on that site, is a song she received from Burt himself with english lyrics penned about remembering a lost loved one....
