I used to be annoyed with Hirama's vocals too, but eventually I got past that and focused more on his compositions. Tokyo Jihen's current backup singers are tolerable only when they aren't raising their voices. Izawa sounds like a drunk, and as Maou said before, Ukigumo often sounds like Seinfeld shouting. There's also a notable difference between Hirama's albums, and Tomosaka Rie's albums. Hirama composes a decent tracklist on his own, without a couple of Shiina Ringo's hand-me-downs as any prerequisite for many of us to take one of his albums even remotely seriously. I give props to anyone who writes great songs (even if they sing like crap), and that goes for Ukigumo too. CHiAKi KURiYAMA music releases are equivalent to Tomosaka Rie music releases, in that we would have no basis (not even off-topic) to talk about it if Shiina Ringo or Tokyo Jihen hadn't got involved.

tokyohive: Kuriyama Chiaki performs her upcoming single using megaphone ala Shiina Ringo
Yeah, it does kind of seem like she's trying to imitate Ringo somewhat. I think Tomosaka Rie did the same in the shoujo robot single. edit: The megaphone thing was a cliche even before Ringo started using it. Please stop.

that might even be Ringo's own megaphone? The proverbial torch.
It would be cool if SR found a real protoge. She could re-live vicariously through the young protoge her solo days writing all the SS/MM songs she wants guilt-free. Like how Tsunku♂ lives vicariously through teenage girls. |

That's one thing I always wanted to see Ringo do- find some up and coming, talented female singer/songwriter and take her under her wing, be her producer maybe.

Song kind of reminds me of a more modern version of Morphine. It's poppy but sorta raw. Definitely SS/MM. )
Part of me would love to hear SR sing it, but part of me thinks it's best to leave this one to a young'n.

PV for "Creamy Season"
http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XMjQ0MDU5NDgw.html The band in the back is clearly not Tokyo Jihen, at least in this PV. |

Thanks clakaz! That outfit looks like something from a 90s shoujo manga about a rock band
maybe I'm too easily distracted by TJ playing but I listened to the songs 3 times and I can only hear a little bit of that SS/MM sound people are talking about...
