Favorite instrument?
What's your favorite instrument?
Now, I needed to generalize a little bit and clump some instruments into groups, so don't get your suspenders all tangled up if your didgeridoo or oboe or gong is unfairly unrepresented. Yes, vocals are included (as "vox" because that's just cool). Rock the vote! Since I fucked up, here are your choices: Guitar Bass Guitar Piano Drums Strings Woodwind (e.g. flute) Brass (e.g. trumpet) Vox

.....I think it depends....
if it's favorite instrument in general, I'm going to have to go with (what I think is) popular opinion and say piano b/c you can play any genre on piano and sound like it's plausible to hear it in such and such song.....conclusion: piano is a very versitile instrument if it's what's my favorite instrument because of the way it sounds I'd prolly choose sax/trumpet or acoustic guitar but only in certain styles (i.e. my eyes will melt out of their sockets and my ears will shrivel up if you make hear country....><) if it's which one looks more fun to play I'd say violin.....you can look really dramatic playing it, I think. if it's which one people look sexy playing it it'd be cello or bass guitar.....don't worry I have my reasons and so on and so forth....overall i'd say piano but I don't like picking....it's like picking a favorite song.... |

I'll be serious for a minute and actually vote for the drums.
I don't know...I just love the drums. It's so weird, but there's this primal, basic beauty in just hitting a drum and keeping a beat. I've always wanted to learn how to play a more complex or interesting instrument, but my heart belongs to the drum. My second (illicit) love is probably the trumpet. I'm a sucker for the jazz, and I really dig loud, hearty trumpet noises.

As someone with intermediate expertise in three instruments, I have a tough time choosing a favorite.
Lately I'm thinking that baritone saxophones are underrated. I've never played one, but I'd like to someday. I love listening to electric guitars because they're so diverse in tones or the style of the performer. But for playing one myself, I don't think I could wrap my head around the structure of it - I'm much more at-home with the piano or woodwind layouts. I'd also like to try an accordian someday. justriiingo will poke me for not proclaiming the bandeon, but at this phase of my life that instrument would probably give me dyslexia if I tried to master it. Double bass is such a rich-sounding instrument too. I think most bass guitar playing should be replaced with it. The only time I've ever thought bass guitar sounded sexy, was when an Asai Kenichi composition (not necessarily under his solo name) put bass guitar in the foreground. Yeah, there are other peoples' compositions where it dominates, but hardly in a way that I think is special. Hammond organs are awesome too. I'd have a difficult time choosing between owning one of those, or a grand piano. I guess I'm just hopeless when it comes to choosing a favorite instrument.

Alright, I decided to choose guitar. Not only just because I play it, but because there are so many ways you can match things to your playing style.
The combination of amps, guitars, effects and pickups is nearly endless and I find the whole subject really interesting. |
