I'm pretty sure Feedbacker is what got me somewhat hooked on Boris to begin with (though I was already curious about them before I checked it out). I agree it's a great album, though not one I am in the mood for on a regular basis.

Well, I've been listening to Boris a fair bit, mainly Pink, Smile, Akuma no Uta and (orange) Heavy Rocks did it for me. But, Feedbacker had me about halfway through part II.

I think Feedbacker was the first one I heard all the way through. I had tried some of Pink but not got what the big deal was. (I still am kind of annoyed I didn't buy it for a couple bucks when it was on sale when the Tower Records in Philadelphia closed. There were vats full of that album.) Smile is still my favorite. Have you heard the soundtrack Mabuta No Ura? There's some incredibly beautiful, lyrical psychedelic guitar playing in that. Not very heavy, though, for those who want heaviness. The middle part you are highlighting does seem like it could be considered the climax. (Raga-like, the climax comes roughly in the middle of the piece.)
Edit: I have't listen to Mabuta No Ura for a while either, but some of the pretty passages aren't really psychedelic at all, and some of the more psychedelic passages are heavier than I remembered. I guess all I remembered was that I liked it. Last edited by Superficial Fan : 2011.12.23 at 08:17 AM. |

Yeah but I hadn't heard Feebacker yet
@SF: I haven't got Mabura no Uta yet, I will check that out next If I keep getting treated to this kind of amazing music from Boris, I think they will become my next expensive investment. I already bought Pink, Smile (Japan CD ver) and Orange Heavy Rocks (was at a second hand store here- I didn't realise what a score that was, apparantly it's pretty hard to find). Still not keen on much from the 2011 releases though, I'm not sure what it is, and no it's not cause they're poppier, they just dont sound all that great. I do like the new master of Luna that recently appeared though. But they will probably grow on me, much as Dronevil did.

Yeah, one of my only favorite current rock bands puts out three albums in one year and I don't like any of them. Kind of disappointing. It's not the poppy issue for me, since obviously I like some pop music (and don't mind my rock on the poppy side).
I should warn that Mabuta No Uta is kind of sketchy at times. I mean, some tracks sound like sketches of ideas, not fully developed. |

Maybe it's because they put out 3 albums in one year... (and maybe a little too much Wata) talk about overkill.
I think though, you would be able to choose select tracks from all 3 and make a pretty good one.
