I reviewed it. I mean everything I say here, even if it sounds hyperbolic.

Listen to the damn thing if you don't believe me.

Still waiting for my copy to ship, but if Nama Gomi was any indication, it'll be awesome. You're right about it being evocative of Togawa.

I gave it a spin. The music is good but I really can't get behind the vocalist. I've just about had it with the recent deluge on the scene of nasal female vocals with no depth at all, it really makes it impossible to enjoy the music when all of it is tuneless screeching. I think it's at the point where there are just SO MANY voices like this that it's not even an interesting/ironic counterpoint in the music coming from Japan anymore. Even Ringo at her most nasal could carry a tune and actually sing. To an earlier reference to KPP - I don't really think she should be our benchmark for good music here (but to each their own)...

You gave it a spin? Last I checked it was nowhere (online) yet...

This sounds really silly and a bit wtf to me given the vocalists range... No one would even question that. Can't sing???What are you listening to?

I feel a little confused.

You are definitely talking about Gomi right?

It's a damn great rock album. Those hooks, that production. The classic sound. The hell.

Yea I can't stand her voice

EDIT: Just realised it was -nama-gomi that I listened to. At any rate I checked out some of the studio stuff on Youtube which is marginally more tolerable I guess.

OK.

Nama-Gomi is not remotely as good, it's not very well recorded at all. It's basically a bootleg. But I like it personally.

You're seriously the first to say anything about it so it really wasn't a thing I'd thought about. I take Bokutachi as the whole package; as a group. And her voice is perfectly fitting everything they do.

It's probably a time and place thing. It just feels like everything new I've heard from Japan so far this year has been some variation on a nasal female vocalist shrieking her lungs out. I don't doubt there's probably a lot more subtlety and nuance that differentiates between each act but it's hard to hear beyond that. Maybe in a few years time I will have the palette for something like this again. Right now my ears are craving something smoother and less.....busting the nuts out with crack.

These style of Female vocals ARE Japan to me though. All the life changing stuff I've come across have been in that higher register. At least when we talk modern stuff. I'm not denying smoother vocals can be great too, but they're usually attached to generic r n b stuff (a genre that barely ever catches my attention) in Japan nowadays unfortunately.

It may change but right now, for me, all the interesting Japanese stuff has vocals you're not fond of.

I think your perceptions of Japan might be a bit off

Yeah I worded that badly. (I'm quite drugged up on some meds atm- would not wish on anyone) but you did get what I meant to say right?
