I have to say- I'm not really a fan and the new album is not something I would normally listen to but over the past couple of weeks I found myself seeking out some of the songs on youtube just to get them out of my head. They're very catchy! I might even get the cd.

Over time it's grown a bit with me, but I still skip Dirty Desire and Come Back To Me... but I have to admit it really IS catchy. Even with cringe-worthy lines like "how can I put this I I I/I'm an independent woman I"

Why is that line cringe-worthy? Can you put into words?

Not really... I just know I laughed when I first heard it. But I think the song itself is okay.
And what about that "bring that beat back!" (correct?) sample in Dirty Desire? That was the ultimate WTF moment of the album for me. |

they were playing a remix of Come Back To Me in a local gay bar/club here in Honolulu. It was pretty hilarious when I realized what it was. This album is okay, its HORRIBLE when you stack it up next Utada's other work and especially when I hear Boa's English stuff, but it okay...it sucks straddling the line, this album would have worked a lot better if she just gave it up and went balls out trashy.

I'm still hoping for the day I can listen or see Utada in Portugal, besides from my own media players. Even if it were to be a gay bar, I guess I would make the effort and go just to listen to her. Please god, tell me it's going to happen some day ;_;
I usually never think of those things for other japanese artists, like Ringo, because it's painfully obvious they will never come here, but I just can't accept it for Utada. She must come here some day. Polysics came D: |

There's a karaoke contest that just opened to promote Utada's latest album.
You have to record your version of "Come back to me" and Hikky will choose the winner, who will win a trip for 4 to Japan and a 30 minute karaoke session with her. Of course the contest is open to everyone in the US and Canada, EXCEPT my beloved distinctive province. Edit: for those interested, it's advertized on the myspace karaoke page. That's odd. Is it because you guys speak French?

It mostly has to do with our contest regulations. They're pretty strict (the intent is to protect the people from fraudulous contests and such) and one of the clauses is that the organizers have to pay a certain % of the prize value to the Board of games. Which makes many companies just not want to deal with all that, and thus exclude us.
