HOLY FUCK ITS A JIHAD POST. YOU KNOW WHAT'S COMING. PLEASE READ WITH CAUTION IF YOU'RE ONE OF THOSE "EASILY OFFENDED" IN REGARDS TO YOUR OWN MUSICAL CHOICE TYPES.
Despite my knowing better I can't help but listen to the clips (..ok, I knew better, but i was goaded me into it.) Now my usual stance is: "I dont judge on clips" -- but considering I wasn't planning on even stealing this album, I figured its genuine promotion from my pov this time, not anticipation. So it's actually ok to judge. All in all, my thought afterwards was this: Like, whats literally written there -- not the actual 2.0 album which was really good (tho not better than their debut.) I digress. Kingyo: Whoever thought of the prospect of Shiina/Jihen playing anime music may soon get their wish/nightmare granted. J-pop crap. Kronekodow: Bokoku Jyoshou pt 2! But cornier! Sweet! Tsukigime-hime: An Uki song if I ever heard one. Mirrorball pt 2. I bet this one goes into the chorus 3 times more than it should too! Metro: "Ok guys, lets take the approach I took for my one good song in a year span (Hatsukoi Shoujo) and corn it up with a stupid bass line and put sound effects worthy Sonic the Hedgehog in the background" All in all: skippage confirmed =( Shiina, what on earth? =(

In a way, she is selling out be letting other members write just because the fans wanted to hear more from them, but I don't think she should be called a sell-out because of that. She obviously LET the other members do more, but as mainstream as the music might sound, it's not exactly all your typical pop. It sounds pretty experimental, much more than most groups/pop artists would try. If anything, it's just uki and izawa's writting skills not being as good as Ringo, rather than they just settling for what sells more. I don't think it would make sense to do this since they have been very famous even before OSCA.

I like how they only put up clips of 4 songs, because that gives us at least another 7 tracks to look foward to when we have the final release!
these songs are all a nice mix, I don't know what I was expecting really. I am a little disappointed to see that Metro isn't a power rock closer or something of that kind....I hope somewhere on the album we have a song that borders on rock ballad, XDXD can't have an album without one. I don't really get the Danny Elfman comparisons going on, XDXD, must be the organ. And I think it is inevitable that people will really dislike some (if not all) of the work off this album, considering it is called Variety. It is going to be like a sonic 福袋-fukubukuro, XDXD. I do hope however that there will be a few jems mixed in all the experimentation (and from the sign of these clips, and my impressions of both OSCA and Killer Tune, I think there will be) 福袋 fukubukuro |

I'm not really feeling the tracks myself. :S Oh well... we'll see when the CD comes out if these samples do the track justice.

Kronekodow >> Funny.
Tsukigime-hime >> Chorus sounds catchy. Metro >>...hmm...no. Bad synth use. Bad guitar effect. Wimpy. Kingyo no Hako >> Not very original but dynamic...the guitar solo on the other hand is bleeeeh :/ So half convinced. I'm sure we'll be surprise, i'm note sure everything will be worthy... |
