Non-japanese musical interests
What non-japanese bands/artists do you listen to?
I don't like being the first, but here we go. Recently I've started to listen to some American swing influenced bands. Some of my favorite are the Squirrel Nut Zippers, The Love Dogs, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, etc. I also listen a lot The Cat Empire (Australia - dying to listen to their new album!). And some fellow Brazilian bands/artists, like Móveis Coloniais de Acaju (ska/jazz/east-european stuff), Canastra (swing/rockabilly/western), Vanguart (folk/rock/bossa), Pathétique Poupée (industrial/visual/rock), Hazy Hamlet (traditional heavy metal/my brother's band)... (actually I started digging almost anything with trumpet in it! I'm thinking about trying to learn to play it too - someday) That's it. Last edited by Migoto : 2007.09.17 at 08:11 PM. |

Let's see...
Argentina: Astor Piazzolla (nuevo Tango maestro) Brazil: Cibelle, SUBA (both electronica, but Cibelle has changed her style now while SUBA is dead.) Ed Lincoln, Eliana Pittman, Gal Costa, Orlandivo, Quarteto em Cy (60s-70s Brazil, the whole Tropicália thing) < currently focusing 75% of my listening efforts on this. I love Brazilian music! France: Phoenix, Tahiti80 (indie-pop/rock) Korea: bluedawn, Casker (electro-pop), Humming Urban Stereo (electro-pop), Roller Coaster (acid-pop/rock) Singapore: The Observatory (Pink Floyd-ish, electronic rock) Sweden: The Cardigans (pop/rock), kent (rock), Koop (jazz electronica) UK: Incognito, Jamiroquai (both acid jazz, though very different) US: blondfire, IVY (both indie-pop/rock), Hypnotic Brass Ensemble (hip-hop/jazz fusion. I hate hip-hop, but this works!) ^Migoto: Trumpets are my favourite brass instruments. But I hear they're really difficult to play!

Half of my ipod is japanese, but as for the other stuff, I mostly listen to:
AFI Alizee Arctic Monkeys Beethoven Bjork The Blues Brothers Bob Dylan Bright Eyes Chopin Daft Punk Franz Ferdinand Gorillaz Kaiser Chiefs The Killers The Mars Volta mc chris MSI Modest Mouse Muse Nick Cave and the bad seeds No Doubt (mostly old stuff) The Polyphonic Spree The Postal Service The White Stripes The Yeah Yeah Yeahs The Zutons I skipped alot of stuff though since my itunes library is close to 1500, so I didn't include any of the bands that had less than 4 songs in my library. |

And yeah, I heard it's difficult to play, but I think I'll give it a try anyway - when I have the time. >< Maou: if you like heavy metal, try listening to my brother's band. *shameless advertisement XD* (http://hazyhamlet.com/main.php?idi=en -> MP3, on the left side) |

There used to be this series of podcasts by Avolta Jr and it's all about 60s-70s Brazilian music. There're about 20 episodes about 30min each. It's brilliant. But like most brilliant things, it's gone from the internet now. Let me know if you're interested. Oh anyway, here's Felicidade by SUBA.
