Ringo's Son's name
According to some web sources I bumped into yesterday....
Ringo named her son Sonata(空遥), which can be literally translated to "the other side of hte distant sky" from Japanese to English. And as we know the romaji also means a form of music in western languages. I gives a very soothing and Buddist sense of language, too. I loved the name and definitely believed it at once cos it's confirmed by various sources and it's such a ringo-ish name. Last edited by Canto : 2007.09.04 at 08:20 AM. |

What are these sources and what's their reliability? I want to believe this, but I'd like to know where exactly you got it.

Is a special reading of the kanji. It is usual, mostly in People and place names, to use a different transcription that can not match with any of the "official" on-yomi, kun-yomi or nanori readings

Then, which is the official pronunciation, "sonata" or "sora haruka"?

Uhhhhhhhh...
Why are you still even persisting about the alternate reading? You ALREADY WERE TOLD how it's read. "Sora Haruka" is not a name. Also, still waiting to hear what this source is, Canto. |

I always wondered what her son's name was.
If it is true, that is a very cool, deep name. You go girl!!

Oh, by the way, I've discovered (THROUGH MY TOP SECRET SOURCES WHICH ARE STILL TOTALLY CREDIBLE. Or actually, just through Rikaichan's name dictionary, which really IS credible) that "Sonata" is a girl's name.
soooooooo... Not that it isn't possible. I just Googled the full name (Shiina Sonata, in kanji) and the main result was a 2ch thread on Variety. Someone jokingly said "Songwriting credit: Shiina Sonata." And that was it. So that kinda sounds like either an accepted 2ch inside joke (like, someone came and said "Ringo's son's name is Sonata!" and it was discovered to be untrue later and now it's a joke) or like 2ch does believe her son's name is Sonata. So it seems like this name is a definite theory among Japanese fans as well but there's no way of knowing for sure. Btw, the 2ch tards seem just as skeptical of Variety as we do. Kinda interesting. And they demand "Source" when someone says something just like 4ch does, which is hilaarious. |
