Thin Lizzys a'ight. I'm not saying I hate it, it just doesn't stir me up as much as other forms (and very often, goes awry.)

Well, what about that one bit in the Just Can't Help it DVD when she throws up the devil's horns while wearing a kimono and carrying a parasol? Metal!
The riff playing the background is pretty heavy. I saw them on this tour and Shiina mentioned the Pantera bit just before they played this song. |

I didn't actually read through the whole thread, but doubt anyone suggested Queen. I've always thought there is a strange, nasel kinship between Freddy Mercury's voice and Shiina's, and songs like Ichijiku no Hana (sp) and the end of Karisome Otone are very Mercuryesque.
The one in particular I think would be awesome would be a song called White Queen. It would have to be very old Queen, though, something from the first four albums. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvE-N4BgfIU Last edited by natsume : 2007.04.19 at 04:05 PM. Reason: grammar |

^ I was going to suggest Killer Queen, but refrained from making such a suggestion because Ukigumo would undoubtedly be on guitar and ruin the song. March of the Black Queen would be another good song for Ringo to cover as long as she finds a new guitarist.

Now, I hate to be one to start any kind of conflict, and I don't hold a grudge against anyone who practices Ukigumo bashing, but to constantly hear people talking trash on him does get slightly upsetting after some time. Especially to those of us who do appreciate him as a guitarist. I don't know if this needed to be said or not, but please think of us before you continue to post comments discrediting him as a musician.

I think Ukigumo (sp) is very similar to Brian May from Queen, technically, both have a broad range, both choose unique and distinctive shapes for each carefully chosen sound. If Shiina were to cover anything by Queen, she has the guitarist she wants.

^ Yet their tones are so radically different that they can't be compared. My argument against Uki always comes down to his poor tone. I'd like him a lot more if his tone was more lively and organic.
I'll also add in Adagio by Orange Pekoe as a good song for SR to cover simply because of Ukigumo. That song has all acoustic guitar and that's where all of Uki's talent shines. It's where you hear no icky digital/overprocessed guitar tone and just pure skill.

TSUMI TO BATSU. No, I'm just joking.
I think she could do a cover of any Cardigans song, but probably if she was in her SS style. |
