For Ringo making KSK “[had] been the realization of a dream … for a long time I thought J-pop was weird and really artificial sounding. I have always tried to create something more genuine.” Because of its uniqueness Kalk Samen Kuri No Hana sold more than 400,000 copies — but once it was completed Ringo decided that this record was the cap to her career thus far, that there had been a line crossed and retreat was necessary. She formed a band, Tokyo Jihen (Tokyo Incidents), which reduced the focus on herself, toned down the experimentation of the music, released a single formed entirely out of samples from her back catalogue (with a video that matched the concept), and most tellingly, had the mole on her face removed, as if these gestures shut a door on something — or someone — considered done and not to be revisited.
Really interesting article.

I wonder why/how she/he can call her earlier works as "sunny pop".

I tend to think she has kind of an "omg that is SO ten minutes ago" attitude about everything she makes. Been there, did the tour, sold the T-shirt. Next. Trying to track her stylistic progress in a way that demonstrates consistency will just give you a headache. Actually, that's one of the many reasons I admire her -- she seems very present-oriented and forward-thinking. Each album is put together carefully, with a lot of attention to nuance, each concert is consistent and has its own identity. But they don't necessarily make sense together.

It's like each album or concert is a very well-written chapter. But from different books.

more brilliant than she is herself capable of?

what is this crap

please, they make it sound like a crime that she wrote an amazing record and didn't churn out reruns of the same material over and over (oh wait...maybe she did just once, HF, OH SNAP) but seriously, the woman is obviously concerned with other things, mainly leaving no stone left unturned and having a good time, rather than be bogged down making "art"

and I wonder why people blame her.....

I was wondering what's everyone's interpretation of "Okonomi De"? Is there a story being told by the lyrics in this song?

Damn. I thought so. It definitely worked. I bought two new nail polishes after listening to it. One of which is gold. It's definitely brainwashing....@_@
