I was looking on YouTube for something from Buffalo Daughter's recent "The Weapons of Math Destruction" release and found this, which was posted recently but is rather old (1998). Hinano Yoshikawa seems to have been a musically insignificant actress/model, but I like this Buffalo Daughter remix because it sort of sounds like 1981 Tom Tom Club under the influence of multiple bottles of Robitussin.
For those unfamiliar with Tom Tom Club...

Just heard of her for the first time over the weekend. Very theatrical 1960s Polish bohemian cabaret singer. okay, the fox, what was that? Can you provide a little context? The music doesn't do that much for me, but the video was pretty full of surprises. Tesla, I like the Buffalo Daughter track, though it does go on a little long (but it's easy to just let it fade into the background). Last edited by Superficial Fan : 2010.08.16 at 07:06 AM. |

The group is called Mrs. This. I've only recently started getting into them, so I don't know much. It seems they mostly make music similar to the above track, but they kind of just flirt around with different ideas to try and keep it fresh. Some of the songs are much brighter and upbeat and the opposite is true for others. Based on what I've seen, the same can be said for their videos. Sorry I've not got any more than that.

I don't like very much house, and I don't really like Egyptian popular music from recent decades, but for some reason I've clicked with this song. (Oddly enough, the beginning reminds me of a merengue song, Amarfis's "Lamento Boliviano." The chord sequence seems the same to my untrained ears.)
(I wish I'd picked a better example of a song from the new Khaled Abdul Rahman album, because it's really good overall. I was having trouble finding any with decent audio quality on youtube. Also, I generally find current Khaleeji (=Gulf) popular music more appealing than what I hear from the rest of the Arab world, but especially the dominant Egyptian music industry.) |
