I'll stick with the bands that I'm still listening to after ten years.
The Cocteau Twins, My Bloody Valentine, Bjork (and the Sugarcubes), The Velvet Underground, Fela Kuti, The Pixies (and now Kim Deal's stuff), James Brown, and honorable mention goes to The Magnetic Fields (I can't say I've been listening for ten years but I didn't see him in this thread.) For HEDOfloe, the Velvet Underground is the ultimate in late sixties, heroin crusted NYC hipster rock. I'm sure you know Lou Reed's "Take a Walk on the Wild Side", but I would avoid his solo stuff. Check out V.U. or the Andy Warhol album. For Migoto and justriiingo, I highly recommend Fela Kuti. Also late sixties - early seventies, it's Nigerian "afro beat" with the most amazing horn section imaginable. There are "Best Of" albums floating around. EDIT: Then again you might hate Fela, so I wouldn't buy a CD without listening first. Last edited by newyorkjihen : 2007.09.24 at 08:36 PM. |
