Not your friend either. I hate you! I wish you would drop dead and burn forever in the eternal flames of hell with ravens eating away at your flesh that regenerates only to be devoured again.
Now that the fun is over...I was just applauding how Tokyo Jihad worded his post, since I can't actually rep him anymore. ...Wasn't just a reply to your post, several posters expressed a sentiment that I construed to be "it's unreasonable for you to hate this album/compare it to past works." I don't agree with that, culture is about comparisons, you can't take a single work and just have it stand on its own. That's not how I believe art/music works. I think we need our cultural references in order to judge whether or not a piece of music is good (and even this is a personal opinion; perfectly reasonable for someone to think SG is good, but I will argue with them over the music instead of deciding that the argument shouldn't take place). If you think you're above all that and in another realm musically from the rest of us, good for you. Edit - The Beatles might not be the best band ever (though I'm pretty sure many many posters here would argue that well into the night), but they have a very impressive catelogue of work. We don't do blind fanboyism here, every Beatles fan here can tell you exactly why they love them.

I don't think comparison is an out and out unnecessary thing. sorting and labels and all that is a very important part of our life. it is just part of human culture and the way are brains are culturally wired. however, one man's masterpiece is another man's trash, so constantly hearing the same one or two musicians or the same one or two albums as examples of a universal greatness and then comparing every said release to that is a huge mistake. taking SG specifically, how can you even compare this to Ringos work? You could compare Futaribocchi Jikan, Yokyou, and perhaps Marunouchi (to the original), but most of the music is so unprecendented for Ringo you'd be better off comparing it against actual artists who excel in the genres she is playing with than saying something like this music sucks compared to MM or SS or The Beatles. They have no common grounds for analysis, really.

There's no one comparing SG to The Beatles here.
But I think it's reasonable to try and compare it to MM, SS, and KZK. SG isn't some groundbreaking, genre-bending endeavour. It's a pop album. It's decidedly Shiina, though the quality of the individual songs are up for debate.

What he was doing was not comparing the album with Sgt. Pepper. He was simply stating the commonly agreed upon perception of Sgt. Pepper as God's gift to man kind.
He was saying how SG is an album in it's own right. Just because a poster believes it's not on the same level as KZK or Sgt. doesn't mean he's putting the album down.

You can love albums while holding other albums in higher regard. We do this with most things. He's not nitpicking about what SG does or doesn't do in regards to Sgt. Peppers, SS, MM, or KZK.

he is drawing a comparision. SG is not a masterpiece, Sgt Peppers is. I wasn't nitpicking Jihad's post to begin with, I was referencing the Beatles in my own because it seems to be the common consensus that if you want to talk about greatness you pick them (not my personal opinion, but hey, whatever). it was also right on top of my brain since people were talking about it recently. anyways, you then singled that out by referencing jihad's post when that wasn't specifically what I was referring to by saying it wasn't a comparison, when it is. this is getting silly.

I'm just saying there are times when people specifically hold an album up to another album and compare them musically, point by point.
The only point I wanted to make was that it's ok to think that one album is better than another. I don't think that music exists in a vacuum and I think that was the point of Jihad's post as well. This shouldn't devolve into silliness, my argument is pretty simple and straight-forward.
