i'm a kameda fanboy too.

His live amp is a 1980's Ampeg SVT. Possibly the models made in japan during the short period ampeg outsourced to japan. Ampeg outsources to Vietnam and Korea today. This is the amp he's been using live for every TJ/SR concert for over 10 years. In the "3 Minutes" video he's using an ampeg flip top.

and his baby is a really beat up 1966 Fender Jazz Bass (the tuning pegs are the clue). He also uses a modern Precision Bass, and Rickenbacker 4001C64.

most of his equipment is vintage stuff discontinued by the manufacturer.

theres nothing really special about his sound. its the classic american rock bass sound you can hear on the radio. Listen to "Serpentine Fire" by Earth Wind and Fire or anything by Meshell Ndegeocello. Its the same kind of sound!

even a jazz bass copycat by other manufacturers can get that sound:

these days, it doesnt matter too much what bass you use as long as the pickups are of high quality. The amp however does make a huge difference to the overall tone and the type of strings you use. P-bass = sounds more like upright bass and lots of low end, J-bass = more high end and mids, like a guitar.
