the packaging is cool, right? tilt the cd just right and you can see an apple decal with the the title and ringo's name under it on the very bottom, XD.
at the moment my favorite moments of the album include the 2:30 bit in Shun "ikiteiru uchi ha, shun da to blah blah blah" bit, the build up with the strings gets me every time. the random change up during Tsugou to Ii Karada at 1:40 where she goes into the "mystery" part later. the DRAMA, I CAN'T STAND IT the opening of the album with the beat in Hayari the "she is a landmine dressed in dior" lyric in Mittei Monogatari the koto in MarunoSa. the rap at the end of Togatta Teguchi, totally badass btw, the lyrics to Togatta Teguchi are awesome. totally cold and impersonal and focusing on condemning and death sentences and such. the "x day" bit actually is written as the anniversary death date in kanji in the lyrics. pretty much all |

Fair enough, cjhobbies.
By the way, unless we're talking about how *important* it is (Which is a major factor in considering 'what is art'), Sgt.Peppers isn't untouchable. I enjoy the whole of Shiina's solo catalogue better than Sgt.Peppers (Even if SR wouldn't even exist if it wasn't for that album). Sgt.Peppers isn't even my favourite Beatles album. And I think it still is silly to compare this album to MM/SS/KZK or other albums that aren't similar. That was my initial impression. Sanmon Gossip isn't even trying to be KZK. Favourite bits I like from SG, even though I haven't even fucking listened to it in earphones yet because mine broke: Vogue: The chorus after Mummy D says "Hey, hoooo, heeeey, hoooo" Togatta Teguchi: The second verse Monagatari Thing: The final chorus Ii Karada: Definitely "It's not a mystery I want a kysterie, give me, a BREAKBREAKEAYAYEAK" or whatever. The whole song should have had more moments like that. |

Wrote this as I listened. May add some more thoughts after a few more listens.
EDIT: Repeated listening thoughts in italics Hayari: I liked it, as I think someone else said (?), it's a great dance track, could totally picture it in a club, ahah. But not enough Shiina. The whole song to me seemed like they were both trying to see which one could get the most of their voice in. Roudousha: Boring. Had to fight the urge to skip. Maybe it'll grow, but really didn't find anything appealing. Okay, after a second time, it's better. Don't know why I thought it was boring before. The melody isn't interesting, per se, but it's a fun listen. I think I like the end the best, where she starts to go crazy. Mittei Monogatari: I love the lyrics and melody, and her spoken words criticizing 009. But there is waaay too much going on in the background, so I can't concentrate enough on all that I like. Forgot to say that parts of this remind me of Kokomo. "Havana, Caracas, ooo I wanna take ya!". Upon second listen, the instruments are less distracting, while still a bit too busy. Maru Chiten Kara: I started out liking it, hoping it would be like another Shun. Then it just got a bit snore. Felt like I heard it before, and the whole song was just the same thing repeating over and over. Again, less boring second time through. I'm warming up already. Karisome Otome: As a new fan, I hadn't been overexposed to this song yet. When it started playing, I almost forgot it wasn't a new song. Seems to fit in well. Tsugou no Ii Karada: (Or, as my sister calls it, The Toucan Song) I really love listening to it. It's all over the place, in a good way. I love her voice here, as it sounds both mature and playfull at the same time. As long as all of her music doesn't become like this, I wouldn't mind having some more similar stuff come out of her. Shun: I love it. It's a little unpredictable, a lot sultry, and just plain pretty. Every album seems to have a song that I can point out and say "This is why Shiina is Shiina and this is why I love her", and so far, this is the song. Futaribocchi Jikan: I really don't like her voice here. It sounds like it did in OSCA, which, considering I am an OSCA fan, isn't a bad thing in and of itself. However, OSCA's more rock, and therefore calls for the raw kind of sound she uses. Jikan sounds raspy for the sake of raspy. Her voice sounds light, like it's ready to fly away. It's cute for what it is, but I don't see myself listening to it except in the context of the album. Mayakashi Yasaotoko: Ahh, this is the voice I like. Like in Mittei, it sounds like she may be overpowered by the instruments, but it works a little better here, more of a harmony than a battle. Parts of the melody I loved, parts that sounded like I'd heard them a million times before. I'm seeming to be having that feeling a lot with this album. Togatta Teguchi: Liking everything but the chorus, which, again, I feel like I've heard before. This almost reminds me of a GACKT song, which I can't remember the name of right now, but uses the "I'm drowning!" audio effect as well. I'm indifferent towards the rap. Irokoizata: No no no, I take back what I said about more songs like Tsugou! Why am I picturing her in a sparkly top hat and suspenders, dancing with a cane and tap shoes? Get me out of this lounge and back into the dance club! Bonsai Hada: Now she has a mustache, beret, and striped shirt. Kind of reminds me of an Ali Project (of .hack// and Rozen Maiden fame) song, only a lot better, but just making that comparison almost ruined the song for me. Her voices sounds perfect here, love it when she and the accordion go crazy together. Might take the "TIWSISATIWILH" award. (See: Shun) Yokyou: Only watched the EXPO performance once, so I can't compare it there. This is really bothering me that, again, this song, sounds familiar, and thus boring. I'm kind of hard to please, I guess. Is that Morning Musume in the background singing their praises? MaruSa: I've been looking forward to this, so I hope it doesn't disappoint..... Oh god. I hope this is a joke. :/ Once she gets to the Japanese it gets better, but from the beginning until the then, that grating background voice makes me near homocidal. (try replacing that for the Marshall line) I really hate that line about the Ric too. I'm not sure how I feel yet. I'll take a nap and think about it.

Probably beacuse of English official title "the leading hitter",
Tsugou no ii Karada is rumored as Ichiro song in 2ch thread. Japanese lyrics is about facing decisive battle with bad condition and wanna be convenient body in microwave. BTW it's often for me to think her Japanese lyrics is not written to sing and forcibly sing by altering pause of sound and sentence. This song is example of it. I don't know if this technic is her invention (maybe not). Last edited by EmilScherbe : 2009.06.28 at 03:45 AM. |

Nah, dude. You basically share my exact opinion. Sgt. Pepper's is pretty overrated. I think KSK beats it any day of the week. It's a good album, sure, but it's not even the best of what The Beatles have to offer, let alone popular music as a whole.

Yes. See how easy that was?
It's pretty difficult to have that opinion without being accused of being a fanboy, but it's not a silly opinion. Actually, I'm sure there are A LOT of albums out there that have built on the foundation of Sgt.Peppers that I'd prefer. I don't even want to put The Beatles in that light because they're MY favourite band (And I've listened to Sgt.Peppers sooo many times to 'try' to 'get' it. Day In the Life is the only song I really love), but Sgt.Peppers just isn't for me. Edit: I've had enough internet arguing for a lifetime =O |

Personal preference is one thing. To say one album is better, with the scope unspecified to yourself, so asssumed to be universal and in this case is laughable.
