The thing about the older anime series some people consider the "best", is that they were the "best" because they were incredibly innovative and revolutionary. It's impossible to NOT see Evangelion's influence on anime as a whole, especially sci-fi/mecha. And maybe some of the descendants do it a little better than Evangelion. But NGE, and Cowboy Bepop, and GitS:SAS, are so special because they were so innovative.

I've always felt like Cowboy Bebop was a true example of style over substance. No, the story isn't that compelling, but it's hard not to get caught up in the progression of things because the series is so tastefully done and brings with it so many good, stylistic influences. Or maybe I'm just a sucker for blaxploitation. I've never understood the love for Ghost in the Shell: SAC. It's always bored me to tears. They spend eighty-percent of the series talking about the plot instead of actually having one. |

Zombie, have you seen the Bebop movie yet? If not, it's worth a look.

Currently watching Nazo no Kanojou X. I actually was waiting since last year for this and Nisemonogatari premiere, both came through a year after their initially schedule release dates and I'm please with them both.

Nazo no Kanojo X has really turned the drool fetishism down a couple notches since that first episode -- it just seems bland now. There are so many better shows this season, like Space Brothers, Fate/Zero, Sakamichi no Apollon, and Lupin III.

I still haven't start space bros. but I'm out of school now so I'll power watch it. I'll check out Lupin too, though it's been nothing but titties from what I've seen in episode recaps so far. |

Every episode of Lupin III has had a token shot of a barechested Mine Fujiko, it's almost a running gag. The show itself has had some iffy episodes (there's a parody of the Cuban Missile Crisis which is too over-the-top for its own good), but also some great ones.
And Space Brothers is absolutely amazing -- I couldn't even name a single flaw in that show. |

Recently I suddenly recall a manga which I read in 80s and collect almost entire volume. Locke the Superman is started in 1967 and still ongoing series. Protagonist is immortal esper and stories are across 2000 years future history from 2049 to Allies of the solar system to Galaxy Federation to Galactic Empire to new Galaxy Federation. This series is surely under the influence of Isaac Asimov's Foundation series as the story of collapse of Galactic Empire is named "Keeper of the book". Karl Durm III (7th emperor of Galactic Empire): "The Book" is not Auric clan's history but indicates civilization of galactic mankind This series has 1 anime movie and 3 OVA. All 4 anime is story of (old) Galaxy Federation and 3 OVA is 1st half of "Raffnord saga". Initially 2nd OVA is planed to animate fan favorite "Sword of Light" but author claimed it is sequel of "New World Command" thus if "Sword of Light" animated alone it resulted inexplicable for viewers. As a result fan favorite and center of "Raffnord saga" was never animated and "Raffnord saga" did not reach to planet Raffnord. timeline 0301 Millennium of the Witch (1st animated movie) 0336 Lord Leon (1st OVA) 0375 New World Command (2nd OVA) 0376 Mirror Ring (3rd OVA) 0377 Sword of light 0379 Outer Planet 0455 The Star and The Boy 0459 Star Gazer (end of Raffnord saga) 0474 Battle of Empty Space (collapse of Galaxy Federation) 0935 Final Quest (collapse of Galactic Empire) Nirvana : a story closed in 2010 and year of timeline is yet to be settled. This story refers most of entire story line as past and called Galactic Empire as "thousand years ago". Last edited by EmilScherbe : 2012.09.12 at 04:45 AM. |
