young Ringo would like this
I heard this song and it reminds me sooo much of SR singing on her demo tapes. Just an honest, soulful pop tune. Enjoy the weekend everyone! Note to audiophiles: Yeah the audio quality ain't stellar, but sometimes audio quality has so little to do with musical enjoyment.

Carole King has a different accent to SR but a very similar tone in the mids and highs in this, and the major 7th piano chord voicings are straight out of the early demo tapes. Then there's obviously the scat singing and that sense of picking up momentum in the bridge that the early stuff has. It even ends in a similar way to the demos. Great tune anyway. Actually sang it once at an English-language karaoke box because I wanted to sing something Ringo-ish and this was the closest I could think of. True story. Perhaps CK wrote some of the music Ringo was into from Soul Train, or it's just a coincidence. Last edited by so_cold : 2011.07.08 at 05:49 AM. |

Good catch on the similarities.
Wikipedia lists Carole King as one of SR's all-time favorite western musicians, so it's not a concidence. |

I don't know why this thread makes me want to listen to some Mama Cass, but it really does. How perplexing.
