But you your notable wealthy producers behind some of these idol acts, so that does go back to the point of the creative talent pocketing the payout. |

I don't know how much Shiina Ringo cares, but Skarapara's roster has gone through some changes since the last time they worked with her, though not as major as Jihen Phase 1 to Phase 2. Skarapara also seems to go through phases of their own, where they'll do an album and a tour with a guest vocalist, but they never (as far as I know) go back and reunite with the not-most-recent guest vocalist. So it could be the band's decision more than Ringo's. It should also be noted she hasn't had a two-way working relationship with them. That is, it was only Skarapara as her guests, not her as Skarapara's guest. She's already had a two-way relationship with SAPS before this most-recent collaboration - they've been her guest at EMI, and she's been their guest at Victor.
If there's any artist in Shiina Ringo's history who is extremely open to re-collaborating with estranged colleagues, it's Asai Kenichi. They worked together again, 6 years after Tsumi to Batsu. He's also re-collaborated with other musicians who were apart from him for more or less years than that, which includes the drummer of Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra (and Asai Kenichi has crossed paths with a couple of the other members). It seems to me as if Asai Kenichi were never truly finished with anybody, so it would only be a question of if Ringo wanted to work with him - not the other way around. They've both been guests in each others' singles, which seems like an easier partnership to renew than Ringo with Skarapara.

So I see everyone completely ignored my actual data and just dug their heels into the ground.
As an addition: we know Ringo lives in Yokohama, which nowadays is pretty much a suburb of Tokyo. It's a very expensive place to live, relative to the rest of Japan which, again, has a very high cost of living. Salaries are scaled, slightly, to that. Many, many bands sell as much as Ringo does. The ones that do anime openings and such. But we don't think of those people as "rich" (in fact, there was a very good article in The Japan Times last year about how much musicians actually make). So let's evaluate Ringo: In her early career she sold over a million. CD Sales have dwindled in Japan, but to go from 1 million to barely 100,000 on her best day is pushing it. Ringo has enough income to live in Yokohama, which would SOUND like it makes her rich, but we don't know the exact location of her house (I hope not...), so we don't know the value of her property. But just because she lives in an expensive place doesn't mean she is rich. Is every person that lives in New York or San Francisco rich? Yes, the very, very top AKB girls make five figures, but that is as idols (singers, models, actresses, spokespersons, etc.) as well as selling MILLIONS in CD sales. Do you see how Ringo can't even compare? @Entry No1 AFAIK, Recochoku is the most popular service for downloading music in Japan. iTunes is more like a music enthusiast platform, it's very much popular with young people (that's why the charts on iTunes frequently don't mirror Oricon's charts) @karateexplosion I mean, yes, I would agree with you. But I see no reason to believe that Ringo makes that much, especially considering how abysmal her sales are right now. Yes, she probably makes enough to enjoy a comfortable life in Yokohama with her son and pay for his university. But I don't really see how that makes her "rich". |

I heard music industry in Japan is controlled by yakuza, so it's possible that Ringo has loads of cash coming from illicit sources hiding in her house. She lives in Yokohama so that she appears poor. Plus, Izawa also lives in Yokohama so that they can hang out.

SR has had a lot of other sources of income beyond album sales:
- Touring (good $$$ even with her limited schedule over the years) - Song royalties - Publishing rights, etc for her music and songs she's written for other artists - Merchandise sales (DVDs, Blu-rays, T-Shirts, Flags) - Fan club membership fees - Various product endorsements on TV and otherwise Unless she's screwed up majorly in terms of her finances she's probably financially secure for life at this point. IMHO, you would never have seen Tokyo Jihen disband if that was the case (and they would have had more tour dates than what they did). |

Not to beat a dead horse, but I love the fact that an off-hand joke by me devolved into a fierce debate over the economics of the Japanese music industry. Classic EMF.

New SAPS album has the PV on a DVD and "Death Jazz ver." of Assassins Assassin on the album too. I'm guessing it means a Neko-less arrangement. Album is called "Circles".
