Credit for what, exactly?
The Mayonaka wa Junketsu and Ringo no Uta chose their animation battles in arenas where they couldn't lose. The same crew that worked on Advent Children also did a Final Flight of the Osiris clip for Animatrix, and guess what? The rest of Animatrix was anime. It would've been a much smarter bet to do Heisei Fuuzoku that way. You can get away with leaving imperfections out on anime. Choose your battles where you can win them, instead of choose a losing battle and shrug, "Well at least I tried".

Dude, that dvd was made for YOU, so like you said, it could not have had more visual effects or it would have taken away from the audio. I feel they did a great job at making good visuals while keeping the quality of the audio. It's all about working around the limitations, and the considering the ones they had, I think they did a great job.

But they're not PVs and should not be counted as such.

You call Sakuran (on Heisei Fuuzoku DVD - not the motion picture) "a great job"?
It's fairly common for DVD-As not to even have motion graphics at all. Just a still image on the screen. The Heisei Fuuzoku DVD wasn't made for "ME". I'll tell you what was made for ME. The e-Onkyo downloads (the noninstrumentals). They're the complete album in the same quality, but without the crossfading, and without the visual bells and whistles.

Call them whatever you want, they don't deserve to go uncredited.

Could any of the Heisei Fuuzoku "motion graphics" clips be taken seriously on MTV, aside from Hatsukoi Shoujo with the intro/outro faded out into black (instead of showing above the water)?
The answer to that, is a big fat NO. "Motion Graphics" are to keep you concentrated on the music (somehow), after you've already bought it. PVs are designed for marketing an album to people who've never otherwise heard the music. The Heisei Fuuzoku visual work cannot feasibly accomplish what a real PV can. The main focus of this thread isn't on how 'real' or 'fake' individual videos are, but on how marketable a so-called album is from the sum of its parts.

In terms of Hatsukoi Shoujo and Oiran, they are PVs.
You are a moron if you think otherwise. ANYTHING THAT GETS PLAYED ON A MUSIC CHANNEL (like, crappy 3d animation, (http://youtube.com/watch?v=GmqV1nZ01Dg), etc etc) IS A PROMOTIONAL VIDEO. Do you think EMI paid MTV and SpaceShowerTV to play those videos for nothing? They were promoting the Heisei Fuuzoku DVD. They are PVs. Seriously, ANYTHING can be a PV is it is used to PROMOTE. They were played on MTV and SpaceShowerTV. Look at the crappy Otsuka Ai PV I linked. Anything will be played if the label pays for it. Once again, this isn't like America where videos "chart" - the labels pays to promote them. HENCE THE NAME "PV". This whole thread turned into an argument of semantics, which is extreme irony in a topic trying to develop a clear cut "system". |
