^ and the worst part is: Maaya Sakamoto's anime songs usually sound way better than this (especially those composed by Iwasato Yuuko)

Really I would love to read translations of the album's lyrics since I'm sure there's more depth to the album as my perception is somewhat limited as a foreign listener. E.g. if Ma Cherie is about vanity, then I can see how it ties in to the theme of greed, etc. |

I have an opinionated ex, though he's only heard the minimal of Ringo's stuff, he said he was interested in hearing her new album. I don't think he'll care for the older singles. I already think he'll like the HMZ song. For some reason it gives me Julian Casablancas/The Strokes vibes. I'll laugh if he ends up liking Jiyuudama, it feels so wild for his tastes.

According to the liner notes, the album is "in memory of David Bowie, Pierre Barouh & Roy Hargrove"
I'm not a big enough fan to dissect the connection here although you can obviously make a conjecture based on the cover art (Bowie influence), her use of French (she's been a vocal fan of Pierre Barouh's way before she recorded 13 Jours au Japon), and love for big band / jazz (Hargrove influence). Wonder if there's anything else noteworthy about these individuals? Otherwise, it looks like Robbie Clark is continuing to provide English translation, Saito Neko is still involved (he's conductor for Ma Cherie, Jiyuu-dom, and Menukidoori), and Midorin is still her regular drummer on multiple tracks. I wonder if the other members of Mangarama are involved in these sessions, although I can't be bothered to look into that right now. Overall, the CD packaging is awesome. Japanese music fans are spoiled by these great standards for physical releases. |

Wasn't there rumours saying that Robbie Clark is actually Ringo herself when writing in English? I might be wrong though.

ロビー クラーク
You could also read that as 'Lobby Clerk'. Probably fake or a pun! |

Yoichi Murata, the trombone player, arranged Nagaku/Kamisama and plays on the show tune tracks. To be honest, I kind of wish she'd freshen up things and work with a different band. Last edited by chestnutflowers : 2019.05.31 at 07:46 PM. |
