That pic of Kameda and Shiina posing like she's fucking Sailor Moon is atrocious and disgusting. Remember when this forum was defending that at the ancient age of 29 she was too old to be angsty and singing about the things she sang at 20. Yet at 32, no one is going to call her out for posing like she's in a pop ensemble consisting of 16 year olds, made to appeal to 9 year olds? No one? Of course not. This forum. If we are resting easy that "at least she's posing with this pop act, and not that pop act" it's time to cut the shit and all agree that she, and this group, or not somehow superior or more insightful than Perfume, whoever that is. EDIT: But seriously, can anyone confirm she's wearing a wig???

We should just send a fan to this events and ask him/her to pull the wig out (it's a joke, I couldn't hold myself)

It's not like Yasutaka Nakata approaches Perfume with complete creative control, an experimental attitude towards the music, and a unique artistic vision. After all, they're "idols", so his art means nothing! /sarcasm Also, I totally don't think she should be acting like a 20-year-old. At the same time, it's Japan, who have this ridiculous sexist attitude that women must remain forever young and cannot age. Women are pressured to act like they're in their twenties forever. I honestly think you need to Shiina off the magical white-knight pedestal in your head. It's unfair to Shiina, and it's just going to lead you to being disappointed with everything. Do you really think she wants people to think of her like that? |

If this collab ever works out, it could be very interesting. Yasutaka Nakata is pretty much the only person I would trust with the auto-tune function. His approach to electronic music has the same degree of fusion and innovation which old SR had to pop-rock music. And SR's got a bit of that electro-club girl in her. Think Yokushitsu. And Ringo Catalogue. And Hatsukoi Shoujou. Sure Nakata is doing some pretty pop stuff now, but you gotta admit that the pop stuff he produces is quite interesting. Also, SR's voice has gone pretty shrill lately. Some auto-tuning prolly wouldn't hurt?

I'm the white knight? Not people that say "so what if they write a few songs for commercials?" No, this is what happen when an artist flip-flops from being an artist to a product. What happens when you have fans of subversive, challenging art in the same place as fans of commercial pop art trying to talk about the same subject. Trying to reconcile these two ideologies aggravates both parties

"Challenging, subversive art" is a very well positioned product that fills a fair demand. Much like a Chanel piece. And both serve to the same purposes to their consumers: make them feel good about themselves. Something that reinforces their own image, boost their pride, confirm their social identity.
(I feel like I wrote a twisted school of frankfurt piece) Last edited by clakaz : 2011.05.15 at 08:20 PM. |

Well now, you were the one condemning all the pop music you heard on the radio in that other thread. Guess it's time to flip-flop now that SR is posing with one of those pop groups. And she would've posed with any pop artist that was there so don't try to pretend it's because Perfume is above any other artist. You're also targeting the wrong person in Jihad with the "all pop sucks, rite?" card.
Then she wouldn't be so obsessed with trying to prove she's not the weird, perverted cosplayer or trying to appeal to the Japanese nerds by posing as a teeny idol. Just sayin'.
