I feel like I'm the only one that actually likes Variety.

What do you think is next for Ringo? Do you think she can put together an album with songs like Ariamaru Tomi, Tamatebako, and that violin song? Or is she bound to disappoint with her boring showtunes?

I am just hoping she surprises everybody with something amazing,
unexpected, and brilliant. |

Raise the dead on your turntable A lot of people are just ambivalent about Variety. I for one, think it's good, but I don't love it, per se.

I don't hate Variety. It's better than an icepick through the ear. It's got Fukushuu. But 2007 TJ for me is about the two single albums.

If Ringo decides to not retire, I definitely think she can release something amazing. I've always said this, but the best TJ songs are Ringo's songs (with a couple exceptions - Gunjou Biyori, Superstar, Kimaru, some other Uki songs). And I've always loved every one of Ringo's solo albums, even Heisei Fuuzoku and Sanmon Gossip. I don't "solo Ringo" ever really "lost it", I just think the setup of Tokyo Jihen forced her to be less imaginative.
I admit Carnation was terribly boring, but the b-sides were much better. But I think that is a similar situation to Gips or Koko de Kiss Shite. Terrible A-side, fantastic B-Sides. I'm always excited for what's next. |
