Thanks. They have a myspace page, where you can hear the stuff more clearly, as opposed to hearing from a bad camera microphone.

I don't like all of their music, but they have done a lot of interesting stuff that crosses genres.

Also, their singer has a solo project, which I like even more than Cold Fairyland.

魏如萱-問號 sounds great!
It's a little Ringo-jazz (done right) don't you think?
I need to keep her under my watch.

Unfortunately no names to contribute to this thread, but great choices so far!

魏如萱 is Fantastic! Any artist who can write and sing a song about menstruation and make it sound like a children's song ought to be worshiped on an altar.

I used to think there were no artists in China besides Faye, but I've found a few to enjoy since then. Thank you for new recomendations.

When I was in Beijing I came to a music shop and asked to find me some Chinese rock music. After my message got through the language barrier the shop assistant dug out two discs from the far shelf and said it was all he could find. The first one turned out to be a truly horrid record. I hope I can find it (haven't seen it for a long time) and share somehow so that others can experience it too. Another one was a tribute to Teresa Teng and somewhat listenable.

Don't know if anyone is interested in this ed-woodish music, but here's the rip of the album I was writing about in the previous post. Actually, it's not as awful as I remembered, there are a couple of tracks with nice guitar sound.

Oh GEe
Hata's arrestment drew me back to this community and this thread drove me to the reply textbox. Awesome.

I first encountered Cold Fairyland live in Hangzhou (Medium-sized city near Shanghai) back in 2005. I can still remember how Lin Di (vocal/pipa/keyboard) occupied our sexual fantasy that night. Wang Wen is a group of neat artists too, with peaceful and delicate music from Northeast China, surprisingly.

Anyone here cares about Chinese indie folk artists?
