Default Goethe origins

I'm willing to bet a good deal of you know this already, but I came across this little factlet on a site just now and I had to share it

Goethe couldn't stand the sound of barking dogs and could only write if he had an apple rotting in the drawer of his desk.
That's Johann Wolfgang Goethe, German writer-- most famous work 'Faust' if any of you didn't know (which I think is probably unlikely knowing you guys XD). And also Ringo's cat.

Again, I'm willing to bet you all knew this, but what an obscure referal way to name a cat. Ringo is my hero

I'm new here so I didn't know... great info. Ringo is so well versed in non-japanese stuff... That is a very interesting person to name a cat after. What other weird stuff like that does princess ringo do?

who says she knew about the apple? She might have just appreciated his work. I have a black cat named Poe yet that doesn't mean when I named him I knew every facet of Edgar's life.

It's almost insulting to claim the others don't know J.W. Goethe... Everybody learned of him in their high schools didn't they?
