Lol, it's like an omen. She just doesn't stop having bad luck with her US releases (and I'm not being mean, it's kind of weird)

^ Naw, that was a nice cover. I'll have to show my boyfriend, he loves Ken Hirai and that song, lol
I really want to rip Ken's hand off though, so it would stop hanging in the air like that. It annoys me soooooo much. |

LOL, he ALWAYS does that when he sings, I'm surprised no one has told him to stop. I always think about my vocal couch when I was younger who would yell at us when we'd tilt our heads upward when reaching high notes. It just looks so stupid when he does that.

Time to revive this bitch err... I mean thread.
After now listening through the remaster (and bonus stuff) of First Love 15th Anniversary, it has left me confused and seemingly alone. This remaster isn't great. It's muddy as hell and I actually have to say, I reckon the orignal sounds better to my ears. Even the 24 bit e-Onkyo version isn't all that superior. I'd love an e-Onkyo release of the original master though. Or would I? I've been finding this album quite a chore to revisit. I remember why I haven't listened to it in such a long time. It's easily Hikki's worst (Japanese) album under her name. I'd go as far as saying, it's pretty damn lame. It hasn't dated well at all, and I'm guessing the reason for it's love is simply nostalgia. Am I being a heathen/the Antichrist by saying this? Or am I correct in implying that First Love is possibly the most overrated Japanese album ever? Does it need such a massive deluxe edition for it's 15th anniversary? The DVD is cute at least I guess...

I can't imagine anyone saying it's her best album. It's extremely derivative, very 90's in all the worst ways.
But she was also 15...so... Also, let's not qualify it. It's easily her worst album, period. Even This is the One is better because at least it's more fun. |

Yeah, I'm gonna agree with you guys. It's definitely one of her worse albums. (Automatic is my jam though!)
But I think the reason it's getting this big 15th anniversary release (and arguably why it deserves it) is that the album was such a huge phenomena when it was released. It's the best-selling album of all time in Japan! So yeah, there's probably a lot of nostalgia attached to it, but people need some nostalgia from time to time. |
