I think almost every cover SR's done I've liked more than the original
Bolded are ones I prefer. Italicized means I've never heard the original so I can't judge.
Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You Hajiri no Hitomi More Chiisana Konomi I Wanna Be Loved By You Shiroi Kobato Love Is Blind Momen no Handkerchief Yer Blues Nobara Kimi o Aisu Jazz A Go Go Kareha (Autumn Leaves) - this one is a hard one since there's so many versions of this song that it's hard to pick a favorite, but hers definitely can stand alongside the others I Won't Last A Day Without You Kuroi Orufe Mr. Wonderful The Onion Song Starting Over Komoriuta Papaya Mango Dynamite Kurumaya-san C'mon Let's Go! I'm sure I'm missing some songs that she's covered but this is just a basic list. Anyone else share a similar opinion with me that whatever she touches she usually makes better?

I don't necessarily share that same opinion. I think her covers are good, but not usually better, but I really like her Momen no Handkerchief . A few years ago I remember digging up an older ver of it. I do'nt know for sure if it was the original or not, but it was at least an older interpretation. Anyone happen to keep it?

You've never heard the original Starting Over?
I'd be hard-pressed to pick John over Ringo on that score. They're both good. One thing about many of Ringo's covers is that they are written from a male perspective, about women, and Ringo retains the original gender pronouns. |

I prefer these songs to the originals:
More Shiroi Kobato Love is Blind Momen no Handkerchief Yer Blues Jazz a Go-Go Autumn Leaves Dynamite Get It Up for Love I'm Gonna Knock on Your Door Kimi wo Aisu and Starting Over stand out to me as the biggest offenders among the bad, the former being surprisingly tame given Ringo's penchant for weirdness and the latter being a so-so cover of my favorite John Lennon song, so of course I can't like it too much. Most of her covers are good, though, even when good is defined as "unoffensive" (e.g. Papaya Mango, Unconditional Love, I Won't Last a Day Without You).

Ugh... I didn't mean to italicize that one. Who hasn't heard "Starting Over"?? >_> I'd be hard-pressed to pick John over Ringo on that score. They're both good. I think John's is superior because I don't like the instrumentation of the Shiina Ringo one as much. I like the piano in his and the way he sings it a lot. I don't think she adds anything new or really special to it. Not that her version is particularly bad because I do really enjoy it. His is just a lot better IMO.

I love listening to her covers. I have a hard time saying her versions are necessarily better than the originals in most cases, but I have no problem saying that hers stand well on their own. Yer Blues is an obvious case. How could I say she bettered the Beatles here? Yet her version is excellent as well.
One cover I noticed that was left off of the list is Georgy Porgy (maybe it was considered more of a Junpei than a Ringo song?). I love that cover for the "wow" factor when Ringo's voice first kicks in. |

In that case, Where is the Love? is missing, too. I completely forgot about these two, and I remember liking them.
