Haha! It doesn't sound anywhere as bad as you guys make it sound -- in fact, it sounds 'sweet', but it just confirms my opinion that Gibs is just Shiina Ringo's spin on a typical J-Pop ballad. Strip away Shiina Ringo and you have a J-Pop ballad (J-Pop ballads, in general, don't offend my ears, I just find them boring).
It just makes me want to watch the Expo performance again. |

^ Blasphemy!
Most of SR's songs can be stripped down and degraded to sound like your typical J-pop song. It's what Shiina does with the details that make her early works special.

I think that even with the 'details' SR added to Gips, it sounds like J-Pop, but slightly more epic. You'd have to do a lot less stripping down with Gips than other SR songs.

I know what your getting at, but Gibs has a special place in my heart, nonetheless.

If she was gonna cover it then she should have stamped her own personality on the track. From what I heard I guess she doesn't have one, thus rendering it a pointless exercise.
(at least Scott Murphy gave me a laugh) |
