That's kinda the reaction I would expect. It's probably one of the most boring songs she's ever done. I watched the PV and I shut it off two-thirds of the way through. She's just lost her edge. It's a little disappointing. :\

Honestly, I don't mind her showtune-y stuff or her big band stuff, but we've come to expect so much more from her than just a straight ballad. I probably wouldn't have been disappointed by this if Tokyo Jihen wasn't being so boring as well.

Ariamaru wasnt edgy either and that was another song commissioned to be a drama theme. Its still a good-ish song.

Ringo's career is similar to what happened to Aerosmith. Its started off bold and edgy, then in the later years turned into "i dont wanna close mah eyyez, dont wanna fall asleep cuzi missUbabe!"

But the thing is, even if she wants to do big band/jazzy stuff (her less edgy stuff), I'm so completely fine with that Heisei Fuuzoku and Sanmon Gossip are probably my favorite albums by her. It's just... Carnation is so... BORING. Even when she did "Yume no Ato" for Heisei Fuuzoku, it was a straight ballad, but it had emotion packed into it. She just sounds bored AND boring in this.

Hell, even "I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing" is better than Carnation.
