St. Vincent - The Strangers
@cjhobbies: very nice rendition of the song. I think I prefer the radio/video mix over the album mix. Last edited by Jesse : 2009.04.08 at 05:00 PM. |

Heart of Gold-Tori Amos
this cover is orgasmic. I think the reason why its so great is so absolutely DESTROYS the song, I mean she literally rips it apart and puts it back together again. the original is one of those songs that literally reaches in and grabs your heart in its bare hand, you just feel so tugged free and exposed. and yet this version has the same effect, but in a completely different way. it got PANNED by critics on the release she included it on but its by far my favorite on that album. that album was really cool, Strange Little Girls, she took songs by prolific male song writers and reinvented them by inserting a female perspective in this incredibly masculine songs, and it really changes the way we look at the music. she says she was inspired by american pornography at the time. completely breathtaking. bonnie and clyde 97 is so creepy. It's sometimes hard for me to believe that Before and after Science is 32 years old now. It will always remain a favorite. Timeless. Last edited by TeslaGuy : 2009.04.09 at 08:16 PM. |

Beach Boys "Heroes and Villains"
Wolves in the Throne Room "The Cleansing" -- can someone explain to me why WITTR are "ambient black metal" and not "ambient death metal" or "ambient funeral" or "ambient/blackened doom"? The taxonomy of metal is so mystifyingly complex. Dixie Dirt "Boulevards" -- maybe the best band ever out of my hometown. RIP. sigh. M83 (w/ bonus skateboardz & exploding suff) "Lower Your Eyelids to Die with the Sun" Mountain Goats "No Children" -- fortunately, only about 10% of my marriage is like this, but Darnielle just nails it perfectly. You really have to love someone who can make "Hail Satan, Hail Satan tonight" into a positive, life-affirming statement of self-pride. |

I keep listening to the small sample of Olivia Lufkin's Undress. It reminds me of a song for an 80's tv show or something XD
