This week's library rip haul (15 FUCKING CDS):
Beth Orton - Central Reservation Beth Orton - Trailer Park Bjork - Biophilia Bjork - Medulla Bjork - Post Bjork - Selmasongs The Cardigans - First Band on the Moon David Byrne & St. Vincent - Love This Giant Joanna Newsom - Ys Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over the Sea Pavement - Crooked Rain Pixies - Doolittle Radiohead - The King of Limbs Tori Amos - Boys for Pele Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot Basically I just mixed Jihad's favorite albums with some ones that I was interested in getting. Now for some reactions on previous albums: 69 Love Songs was interesting, because of its huge variety, but I felt like most of the songs didn't have depth or were even catchy, and it just so exhausting to listen to. PJ Harvey - Love it, awesome awesome Oh, and considering I just went through Jihad's list, I need some more recommendations. I'm thinking Animal Collective, Last edited by TurtleFu : 2012.12.01 at 08:54 AM. |

It's beautiful. RE: 69 love songs: It is exhausting. It's exhausting to even get through one disc sometimes. It took me the better part of a year to gt cozy with the album. There's alot of ideas. Some of the negative things you mentioned, consider this as an album about love songs rather than an album about love. That context changed everything for me. Animal Collective word of warning: you're probably going to hate the first listen. You're probably going to hate the second listen too. But from then you'll start to pick up little tiny, tiny, things you like. From there it will snowball. And then repeat the process when you move on to the next album. If whatever I recommend, you find awful on first listen, just know you're supposed to at first. If you like acoustic songs that sound like they are performed around a campfire while on acid: Sung Tongs If you want something electronic, clean, and vaguely dancey and sweet: Merriweather Post Pavillion If you want something more alternative and vaguely rock and roll: Strawberry Jam Other recs I'd like to make: The Microphones: The Glow part 2 Dj Shadow: ...Endtroducing Fleet Foxes: Fleet Foxes and Helplessness Blues Deerhunter: Halcyon Digest, Microcastle - Weird Era contd. (basically anything) Flaming Lips: Soft Bulletin, Clouds Taste Metallic, Zaireeka Beach House: Teen Dream Taylor Swift: Red Dirty Projectors: Rise Above Beach Boys: Smile Sessions (you can put this at the top of the list) Weezer: Blue Album Guided By Voices: Bee Thousand Boris: Akuma no Uta Pavement: Slanted and Enchanted okay okay I'll stop there. Also I'll hopefully have my end of year write up posted in a couple of weeks. Plenty there to choose from!

Stuff that is bolded is going straight on my list. Boris: I already tried some Boris and it's just so dense. The shoegazey- metal-y heavy rock is just too much for me. But I will give Akuma no Uta atry becuase everyone here seems to be in love with it. Pavement: Depends on how much I like Crooked Rain Taylor Swift: You are joking, right? EDIT: When I got the latest batch of CDs, the librarian said to me "I haven't heard of any of these bands, I feel so old..." |

You'll like Crooked Rain. Its Pavement's 'classic rock' album. Pavement isn't a difficult band (though Slanted and Enchanted would be more difficult.)
When you do decide to try out Boris, start with Akuma no Uta. It offers a little bit everything Boris does. Re: T-Swizzle: Partially joking. Red isn't "as good" as The Glow part 2 or Bee Thousand (nudge nudge), but for what it is its pretty good! Junk food is good in moderation, and can be damn tasty.

Akuma no Uta as starter? I woulda said Pink.
Anyway Akuma no Uta is awesome but the whole album is really overshadowed by Naki Kyoku and Intro track on the Southern Lord version. I always forget what else is on there till I listen to it

Feedbacker's album cover gives me very strange feelings. It's much more likable than that frog on Amplifier Worship.
