Five Faves From Faves
We have a thread going about your five favorite bands/artists, but what songs are your favorites by them? They don't have to be absolute favorites, because if you're like me, it's often too hard to choose. Just tell us 5 songs that are up there on your list for some bands you like. Then come back and post more songs for different bands, or post 5 more songs you really like from bands you already mentioned.
I don't mean to limit it to Japanese bands either, but that's where I'll start because it's the commonest of the common ground around these parts. Since the Puffy love has been flowing freely lately, I'll start with them. Two other of my favorite bands I'll include now are Pizzicato Five and The Brilliant Green. These songs are in no particular order, and I've left some great ones out to keep it to 5, but.... Puffy: Sorenarini (Solosolo - Yumi disc) Akai Buranko (Nice) Nagisa ni Matsuwaru Etc (Jet CD) Nichiyoubi no Musume (Fever Fever) Hazumu Rizumu (single - with TSPO) Pizzicato Five: Baby Portable Rock (single) Sleeper (Bossa Nova 2001) Darlin' of Discotheque (11 min. version) (single) Let's Be Adult (This Year's Girl) A New Song (Playboy & Playgirl) Brilliant Green: Love Baby (Bye Bye Mr. Mug single) Mister Moon (Goodbye and Good Luck single) Moldy Hole!! (Rainy Days Never Stays single) September Rain (Terra 2001) Nagai Tameiki no You ni (acoustic demo) (Bye! My Boy! single) |

It probably changes weekly for each artist, but today...
The Beatles (Top one or two are definite, the rest change almost hourly ) A Day In The Life [Sgt. Peppers] Strawberry Fields Forever [Double A-Side with Penny Lane] Norwegian Wood [Rubber Soul] In My Life [Rubber Soul] Happiness Is a Warm Gun [White Album] Radiohead (The top 2 are definite faves): Paranoid Android [OK Computer] How To Disappear Completely [Kid A] Nude [In Rainbows] All I Need [In Rainbows] Exit Music (From A Film) [OK Computer] The Libertines (I love almost all of their songs just as much, but 'Up The Bracket' is the better album so I chose most of my current favourites off it) Time For Heroes [Up The Bracket] Horrorshow [Up The Bracket] Up The Bracket [Up The Bracket] I Get Along [Up The Bracket] What Katie Did [The Libertines] I'll leave it at that. I'll post my next 3 artists later when a few others have contributed. Edit: I love the fact that all 15 Beatles songs chosen are unique. Not surprising at all, just goes to show... y'know... they're pretty good :p

Amy Winehouse
She's a pain to watch but I adore her music! I recently watched her Live in London performance... lol @ her over-enthusiastic back-up singers! (damn I like so many of her songs it's difficult to just pick five!)
The Observatory Progressive rock sprinkled with elements of jazz... Intense, pensive, thought-provoking music. And best of all, they're from Singapore.
Jihad's post reminded me that I really really adored The Cardigans...
SOIL&"PIMP"SESSIONS (Their fans are sorely under-represented in our memberbase here... probably because Karisome Otome was such a "blah" song?)
Special mentions (since these people only have one album out at the moment and I can't make up a list of 5 tracks) St. Vincent (thanks Maou!)
Mayra Andrade (Lovely Cape Verdean songstress. She's my hot tropical music fix.)
Belleruche (Their debut album is called "Turntable Soul Music". Sexy.)

Totally UNTRUE. How could you say that!? "Karisome Otome (DEATH JAZZ ver.)" was the best of the "Kono Yo no Kagiri/HF"-era... IMO, of course. |
