2008 Summer Lives
just got this in from Ringohan
So Tokyo Jihen is starting back up with activity. This summer, in tradition of Society of the Citizens vol. 1. Tokyo Jihen will be headlining a two day Society of the Citizens vol. 2. 8/23 will be Tokyo Jihen, Elephant Kashimashi, and SCOOBIE DO. 8/24 will be Tokyo Jihen, ZAZEN BOYS, and SOIL AND PIMP SESSIONS. then, on 8/15 and 8/16 Ringo and Tokyo Jihen will be performing at Rising Sun Rock Festival. Yes, Ringo and Jihen, meaning two performances, one solo one with band. Ringo performed solo at the first one ten years ago and apparently that performance is one of legend so she is doing it for Rising Sun's 10th anniversary along with her own 10th anniversary, while this is Jihen's first Rising Sun Festival. |

yeah a ringohan event would be sooooo much better but oh well.....the fact that they are having another Society of the Citizens two years after the first one shows that maybe next year they might do an event and still call it "annual."
I'm excited to go to Rising Sun to see Ringo (if I can get tickets) but I really don't want to fight 40,000 people to see her perform solo for her anniversary. Oh well. Maybe by then they will have new material or news to give us. |
with SCOOBIE DO? just like GO!GO!7188?? :O so tokyo jihen and gogo will be at scoobie do 2man live.. hmm ... ive been imagining something that would never happen.. gogo will have a surprise guest at 4/6 5/6 7/6 on Tetsuko no Hair 2 man tour, any possibilities it could be Tokyo Jihen? o_O
|
Oh thanks for this information, Kuro Neko. It's a bit disappointing not to be her solely performance or TJ's, but anyway better than nothing.

August???!! I can't wait for her to release something new and drag me away from the clutches of indie rock and pop.
|
hoarding a load of her self-written songs for her next solo?
Giving TJ to the boys while still making solo music for the fans who are waiting for the true successor of KSK? please let it be true! |
I hope she'll play gamble mellow and tsumi to batsu
|
Yay, now our RSS feed is finally serving a purpose!
I wonder who Shiina Ringo's backup will be when she's not performing with Tokyo Jihen. Better not be Saito Neko, not because I dislike his style, but because that's been ran into the ground already. |
She should play "Aisaika no Choushoku", "Sakuran", "Karisome Otome (DEATH JAZZ ver.)", "Identity", "Yokushitsu", all the songs from KSK and...
Okay... Dreaming is free lol. |
Get Kikuchi Naruyoshi in there!
The both of them will make a sexy on-stage couple. And SAPS! YES! But yeah! Finally an SR performance without the presence of *you-know-who*! Let's hope there's some new material ;) |

She reallly needs to celebrate her 10th with a ROCK SHOW that blows TJ out of the water. (Kameda can come, he was there first time around, and pretty responsible for SS. Maybe she should go with the "old" TJ?) Unfortunately, the SOC dates don't work for me. The Rising Sun dates may or may not work, I won't know until June. I am not too keen on huge festivals, but I guess I would bite that bullet to go to the Shiina solo show, if I can. Awesome news! When are they going to announce this fall's 10th anniversary solo tour? |
Shit, didn't realize Rising Sun was in Hokkaido! That makes it pretty unlikely I will go to that. For a summer festival in Japan, that is probably the best location, as the nights should be relatively cool, even in August. Oh well, I will just cross my fingers and hope a proper DVD release happens for that one.

yay for gamble and yattsuke shigoto ZCS ver! |
I'd rip a hole in my britches if she played all-new material from an upcoming solo album.
And ditto on the sans-Neko-san point, although I don't think these venues or their attendees would really lend themselves very well to that kind of sound. |
as cool as RSF and solo performance sounds, I think the two day SOC is way cooler, I mean the fact that it is two days now with 4 other bands other than TJ practically turns it into its own little festival. Who knows, maybe 10 years from now this could Tokyo Jihen's own version of Ozzfest where they roll the band out in wheelchairs to wave for five minutes before singing one shitty song and returning to the wings XDXD
and I forgot RS was in Hokkaido, I love Hokkaido. |

I will probably catch the live here in 後楽園(Tokyo Dome area) at JCB Hall. It's gonna be so close to my campus that I can almost take the elevator down to the live. :-)
I'll likely attend the Saturday gig. |
Audio rips expected :P

Also, wanna guess who arrives in Japan on August 21, has nothing to do until September 9, and is willing to purchase scalped tickets? |
I don't know the history of the first RSF and Shiina. I have seen the piano set. Was that it? Was she headlining? No band? Doesn't seem appropriate for a such a huge show, 30,000 in the big tent.
|

at that time (1999) number girl, thee michelle gun elephant and blankey jet city were playing there aswell (I think..) |
Quote:
Since the festival is called RISING SUN ROCK FESTIVAL, she should kill us with a super-rock show . |
And she will love it and think to herself "What the hell have I been doing all this time!?" :p

I know, if I were to go, I would be very disappointed if her 10th anniversary show were solo piano. Not that that is not something I wouldn't otherwise love to see, but at a huge rock festival? If I go, tickets and transportation would set me back about $600. Her solo show had better triumph over TJs. And I like the new TJ!
I don't really see the point if she doesn't try. |
I'm really pumped about this.
Separate TJ and solo shows can only mean better odds of getting one good show right? Im hoping Hata is still her drummer solo tho....(well, im also hoping she has a drummer...) |

Quoting from Cloverfield: OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG
|
I wonder if she will be overwhelmingly compelled to do Sadistic both nights?
(Love the song, but that is not a hope.) |
A Ringo show without MarunoSadi...? 'Tis not a Ringo show, mate, but blasphemy. I just hope it's not the newest porno version twice.
|
Im all for Marunouchi, Koufukuron (esturakuhen), and Onaji Yoru taking an extended leave of absence.
Course if its Shiina-Shiina, i really couldnt care too much. |
Yeah, she should bring back the original Koufukuron.
|
God, tell me about it. I think she was dissatisfied in it from the very start though (her record label made her record that version for her first single even though she wanted to start out with a different song, so then she rebelled later by putting a more uptempo less jpop-y version on the album).

Look, Shiina (uh, yeah, and the Incidents) is already in the line-up! |
Help!
I live in Okinawa and I want to attend the Rising Sun. Flying to Sapporo is no problem. I don't know how to get to the festival though. Also, do I buy tickets there or at Lawson? I can't read much japanese so the japanese site isn't much help, and the english site doesn't provide much either. How much is it for 1 person? I will probably rent a tent spot and camp there.
If anyone could help me out with details I would be verrryyy appreciative! |

I think that if shiina wanted to sing her songs, she could do so with jihen, she does so all the time. So the fact she is doing a separate performance should mean something. How many times has she performed Sadistic with jihen? I think she is either going to show her ass, or show some new material. Otherwise no need for a separate performance. Well either way it will be one heck of a show. |
My gosh.. what a great line up! Sherbets are gonna be there tooo! Can we expect a special appearance of Asai Kenichi on Tsumi to Batsu? And oh his sexy lady bassist is gonna be there! She's totally gonna steal the show! And Kikuchi Naruyoshi too! Damn it wish I could be there.
|
Quote:
Sherbets doesn't have the "sexy lady bassist". She's in Asai Kenichi's solo-career band, which is comprised of entirely different people than Sherbets. I don't think of the keyboardist/backupguitarist lady in Sherbets as anyone extraordinary (visually or audibly), but she does her job. Asai Kenichi alone, is 70% of that band's overall talent, with the bassist claiming 15%, the drummer claiming 10%, and the woman claiming 5%. She's had some other career on the side where she writes her own music, and I don't know what any of that sounds like, but in the context of Sherbets, she doesn't do anything on keyboard that you couldn't do. To give credit where it's due, perhaps Asai Kenichi holds her further back than Shiina Ringo held back HZM. |

That makes me sad. I like that girl. SR should totally use her! |
That's right. Tabasa should replace Kameda in Phase 3. Tabasa on bass and Tabuchi Hisako on guitar. It'd be fantastic.
I'm a bit disappointed now. When JR mentioned her, I thought Scarlet was performing... |
Quote:
Plus it would be nice for a change if fans were busy talking about how hawt Tabasa is in this universe, instead of how gay Kameda is, in some other universe. |
I dont know about you guys, but I'm liking Phase 3 alot already ;)

http://rsr.wess.co.jp/2008/en/tickets/index.html It is in the suburbs of Sapporo. If I go, which is still a big if, I would stay in Sapporo, but it does look like the camping is a really good deal, and probably a lot of fun. For some people, not for me. Lawsons, e+, and Ticket Pia seem to have tickets available now. You should really consider having a Japanese friend register you on one of these sites, or at least help you get tickets. Or do what I have done, and walk into Lawsons and ask the counter people for help. Generally, they are happy to do it. I went to Sapporo for the first time this year, Yuki Matsuri. The snow festival was awesome, but Sapporo itself is a really cool town. If I go I will try to go for a day or two on either side to check out Sapporo some more. Some of these don't look half bad. http://www.jtb.co.jp/ripple/rsr2008/ |
Thanks Natsume! Do you know any cheap places to stay in Sapporo? I'm not going to have a lot of money to spend on this. Also, how do you get from Sapporo to the actual festival?
And what is that site you linked? I can't read japanese well enough to make any sense of it. |
I'm starting to see a lot of anticipated buildup around her "solo" show, and I've seen this happen before: yeah, she's gonna come back to the rock roots, she's gonna outdo KSK, etcetc, and in the end, she really doesn't deliver.
Which for me is fine, because I always keep my expectations low, and I always expect the unexpected with her, but I honestly don't think she will fullfill the expectations that seem to flourish around here. she doesn't even have as much fans as she used to. It'll be a more low-key affair, if you ask me. The fact that it's called a "ROCK" festival means nothing, because the Japanese idea of "rock" can include all sorts of deviations. Even Rock In Rio, one of the biggest music festivals in Europe, has artists like Alicia Keys or Josh Stone playing?!? So beware... ...If you're gonna spend hundreds of dollars to see her, I would advise to not hope for too much, or else the regret will be tenfold. |
yeah, I agree. Everyone always gets hyped up about these announcements, imagining it's going to be what they want to hear despite the fact that none of the announcements so far have indicated anything in one direction or another, and then when it's not there's this almost palpable sense of despair and negativity pervading the forum, and everyone starts snapping at each other. It's a vicious cycle...
|
Haha, yeah, but I think it's understandable... We all want Shiina to release new stuff not linked to TJ... Of course, this performance means just nothing... She's only performing due to her 10th anniversary...
|
I am still disappointed, a little, by HF. I was so hoping for all new material on that one. So yeah, I would take this "solo" show with a grain of salt, or at least not too high of hopes.
Oki-ringo, I think you really need to have a Japanese friend walk you through all of that information, I can't read it very well either, and use imperfect translating programs much of the time. I do think, if you are into it, for anybody, heading up to Sapporo for the festival itself could be really really cool. I don't love huge festivals, but I kind of feel like I should hit up at least one while I live in Japan, and when I do, it will have to have some kind of icing on the cake. This festival definitely has that in both location and line-up. As it is, I am going to Sado-ga-shima the following weekend for the taiko group Kodo's festival. It will be very small, by design, and I am almost certain a total blast. Since I know I will have fun at this one, it makes it even more unlikely I will try to go to RSF. In my experience, huge festivals can be more not fun than fun. Although RSF looks pretty well organized. |
Right now, I wouldn't care if she didn't perform any new material.
It would be refreshing just seeing Shiina being Shiina and doing the old material with attitude, jumping around the stage, taking off shoes and brandishing megaphones. |
Oh, Skapara is also mentioned on the RSR list. That could be cool.
|
okay, we should totally make a list of who is going and have an EM tent.
|
I can seriously think of going, as soon as I calculate all the costs.
|
I'm not going to be in Japan again until May 2009. :(
|
hmmm...I don't really have an expectations with her solo performance. I just want to see Shiina live, period. She is a wonderful musician and even if she doesn't do "the expected" I will still love her work for her work.
It's looking pretty good for me going to the RSRF. I will probably get a tent. kuro neko, whats an EM tent? Oh, and I contacted the RSRF people and a lady is helping me out. She noticed that the english site is crap and apologized lol. Wish me luck! |

I've been pretty psyched since I heard about this. I'll be in Japan in May for a week and I'll definately try to lock up some tickets then. Looks like I'll be back in August haha. See some of you folks there. There is no way I miss out on a SR performance, plus the RSR line-up looks pretty solid.

seriously, we should get a tent. EM tent meant tent for electric mole members. either you can get a ticket and then find a hotel (probably more expensive, difficult since no one has a car) or we can get an EM tent and people can hang out and sleep there between the days. According to my mail Ringo and Jihen will be on different days. The SotC Vol. 2 is going to be smack in the middle of Tokyo so no problem. SotC is going to have fan club presale as well although it is only 1 ticket per each day (you can enter for one ticket for both days or two tickets for one day maybe...not sure yet) ...kind of strict considering all over presales have been 2 tickets...maybe since it is two days...
|
Well, I have to say I'm extremely jealous of you all who will be able to make it. I would totally be there if I hadn't already committed to going to Greece instead...oh well.
Hopefully some good bootlegs surface...hint hint;) |
Ah! EM tent would be so boss. I will more than likely be getting a tent spot. I need to buy a tent though. the spots are only 4m x 3m..not sure how many people would fit in like a 9'x9' tent.
Can work out the details later :D Man I'm psyched! Oh, and we need to start a thread for people going to this. Or PM's..something..organization! |
I'm almost definitely going for the RSRF, and I'm from Singapore, and this is the first time I'll be going to Japan alone.
I definitely need help to get to the concert grounds from wherever I end up at in Hokkaido. I'll be flying to Tokyo then Shinkansen-ing to Hokkaido. Any advice would be greatly, greatly appreciated. I'm this close to fulfilling one of my biggest dreams this is all too thrilling for words. |
one more for the tent :D

what??? That confirms NONE of that. Just because they asked her to do a solo live means NOTHING.
|
^ Heh. Just Hedo being Hedo, frecklegirl.

Ah, an EM tent... If only I didn't get this new job, I would drop by and shout every one genshu sake!! :( . Damn you probation!!

There's a new picture of the band members on the Kronekodow main page. I think to promote their appearance at Rising Sun Rock Festival.
All of the guys look HILARIOUS. hahahahaaaaaaaaaa |
Er.
Ahahahaaha. I don't know what to say really. But it's a cute picture. |
Haha @ the guys. Shiina looks beautiful, though. :D
|
So hey, solo performance....
|
Even with that stupid hair she looks ravishing.
That is a classic shot. |
OMG...Izawa looks like MTV Asia host Utt...Bottom line: Hot and cute

That picture is why I hope the solo show is the beginning of the end (or hiatus) for Jihen.
I dont care if itsnot my dream super rock show. If its new and interesting (and NOT fuckin BX part THREE) I'll be happy. (...and if the songs are good) EDIT:tho dont get me wrong, i might BUY a album if it is my dream super rock show =p |

so is anyone seriously thinking about going to rsr?
it's exactly on the last couple of days i'm in japan in august, and me and a friend are thinking of blowing a few hundred dollars to fly up to hokkaido and see it, probably only the last day? |
It would be a good opportunity for me to "see" Hokkaido but I think I won't be able to make a decision until like July or something...
Why not start a new thread about it and then add all who'll join in the first post to make organising things easier. If I'm going I will be expecting an EMF tent complete with URLs and bad forum quotes stuck onto the outer tent walls. |
I got tickets with camping in the forest, I see the queen doubly !!!!!!!!!!
|
i've totally booked my flight to japan already, and im gonna ask a friend to help me get tickets once the sales start on 28/6.
anybody with a tent? am thinking of crashing, heh. |
KAMEDAAAAAAAAA HAHA OH MY GOD.
And the first pic, doesn't Ringo look like Utada Hikaru? Is it just me? |
I'm going to Hokkaido too for both days! It should be an unforgettable weekend and the rest of the program is great too.
|
I don't decide whether I will go.
But if some of you need support from a Japanese native I think I can provide something. |
thanks, I help a friend Nagoya, which happened ^ ^
