E3

MICROSOFT

Microsoft's E3 conference can be streamed in full here. Highlights:
  • Final Fantasy XIII demoed on 360 hardware with English dubbing.
  • Forza 3 unveiled. Over 400 cars and an advanced in game video editor with which this gameplay trailer was made. Stunning.
  • Facebook, Twitter and Last.FM apps for the 360 fully integrated with friends lists, photos, in game updates and music streaming/scrobbling.
  • Full 1080p instant Movie/TV show streaming (connection permitted) and full Xbox 360 game downloads to become available starting with 30 of the best selling titles at $19.99 each.
  • Then they finished with their new motion camera which is capable of face and full body recognition at 60 frames per second with a 3D stereoscopic and infra-red camera for 3D environment recognition and depth plus a specialised mic with voice recognition. You can control the 360 interface with your hands and voice Minority Report style. There's a decent Time article on the camera, currently entitled Project Natal, here and Jonny Lee, the guy behind the infamous Wii 3D head tracking hack, has blogged about the hardware having been hired by Microsoft.
  • Peter Molyneux unveils Lionhead's Milo which utilises the new motion camera. Peter Molyneux has been working on it for 6 years and has claimed that the AI will "revolutionise the industry". He likes his hyperbole, but it'll be interesting to see how it pans out. It certainly looks impressive. Steven Spielberg appeared on stage raving about it. The aforementioned 3D headtracking will also be made use of in Milo and possibly in James Camerons Avatar which is the first major game to be in full 3D.
NINTENDO

Nintendo's E3 conference can be streamed in full here. Highlights:
  • Wii Fit Plus announced.
  • Wii Vitality Sensor announced. wat.

  • Final Fantasy VII now available on the PSN Store.

only 20 minutes now!!!!

by the way, have you read the summary of "Singularity"?
Here it is.

Quote:

The game takes place in 2010 and the plot revolves around a mysterious island known only as "Katorga-12" where Russian experiments involving "E99" (Element 99) the equivilant to the actual element Ensteintanium, which has no special properties like those referenced in the game, took place during the height of the Cold War era. Sometime during 1950, a catastrophe of unknown nature known as the "Singularity" occurred on the island[1]. The player controls Nate Renko, an Air Force pilot who is sent to investigate bizarre radiation emissions coming from the island only to crash land there. After regaining consciousness, he finds the TMD (Time Manipulation Device) attached to his arm and discovers that the island is constantly shifting between the time periods of 1950 and 2010. Renko's goal is to find his co-pilot, escape the island and eventually prevent the Singularity.[1] Besides having to deal with hostile Russian forces in both time periods, the player must also deal with the hideously mutated flora and fauna of the island, some of which have actually developed time manipulation powers of their own.
Haha, sounds a bit familiar.

EDIT: Natal = Christmas (in portuguese). Lol.
Lol @ the Wii attacks by the host.

golem09 2009.06.01 11:24 AM

That last bit looked interesting indeed.
Maybe with the right marketing, they could destroy Nintendo now.

And Alan Wake was just amazing. The use of lights, and the voice of Alan from the off was phantastic.
