The Jihen Boys- WHERE ARE THEY NOW

This thread is designed to keep people up to date on the happenings of the rest of the Jihen lads (phase 1 and 2) after their breakup, inspired by the recent appearance of Uki and Kameda at VIVA LA ROCK festival.

Here's what I know regarding most recent activities:
Hirama- spokesman for SugiGuitars
HZM- Little solo projects, appears with Ringo live- on Expo 14
Izawa- working with Aiko, solo show, touring with THE HIATUS as a band member
Hata- Appeared on a Tricomi video clip
Kameda- Appeared on VIVA LA ROCK, part of THE TURTLES JAPAN
Uki- Appeared on VIVA LA ROCK, touring with Ringo live, Releasing material under Nagaoka Ryosuke and Petrolz.

Please feel free to fill in gaps or correct me, I will keep this top post up to date.

You have to look for some of them on the streets of Tokyo.

Izawa's been doing some work with Aiko lately, as well as a solo show and touring as a member of The Hiatus.

Hirama Interview

Part time member of a band named Plenty, occasionally works with Elephant Kashimashi and Superfly. Started touring solo again in 2013.

Also in 2013, HZM mentioned on Twitter that he saw a beautiful young woman with a guitar at a busy crosswalk. He later confirmed it was Hirama Mikio.

But, like, what has Phase 1 achieved for the last decade that justifies their leaving Tokyo Jihen. I want a step by step breakdown =p

The Most Curious Thing 2015.06.28 06:23 PM

H ZETT M collab with Hatsune Miku, duh

deadgrandma 2015.06.28 06:25 PM

Hirama did bang a weeb... So there's that

Scribble R 2015.06.29 02:59 PM

So I guess that Shiina Ringo was too horrible/intense to work with at the time (and she's been apologising ever since =P)

The Most Curious Thing 2015.06.29 03:26 PM

in all seriousness H ZETT M was entirely jusified in bailing out

the man has had smorgasbord solo albums, solo piano albums, concept albums, live recordings, all his work with PE'Z, and now a new trio project

it's all hit or miss, and I would *love* to hear an alternate universe Variety with more HZM compositions than Izawa+Uki compositions, but he's pumped out enough content to justify his leaving

I heard a story about how Shiina and HZM had a disagreement about part of a song and she refused to speak to him for a day. No idea if it's legit, but I'd believe it.

Completely agree. He wasn't a scrub off the streets like Hirama and Hata when he joined the band.

I understand HZM wanting to continue doing his own thing. Hirama, though, he's a complete fool unless those old rumors are true about having a relationship with Ringo. I don't think many people would want to continue a working relationship with their ex.

Lol, all the gossip about SR paints her as someone suffering from a personality disorder. Still, stories like that makes sense to me. Going from SOS to Shambles to completely stepping back with Variety (and her becoming overly humble) suggests that there was SOMETHING up.

And why start your first major Phase 2 show with something as dramatic as Souretsu? And what was the deal with Rakujitsu and Tegami? I won't deny that gossip about this stuff would be interesting.

deadgrandma 2015.06.30 05:13 PM

This is childs play from what I've heard about working with Jun Togawa :-p

waranghira 2015.08.19 03:49 AM

btw, only now got to post this.
Do you guys know of this?

I knew from the sound of the piano in Track 7 that it's gotta be HZM; checked the credits, and it is!
I wonder why they didn't decide to lump him together with Hata in a song (should've been track 7!), 'cause that'd be extremely cool, like an unofficial tricot x jihen collab.
Or maybe the two are sick of working together.

tsukigimehime 2015.12.08 05:02 AM

Uki aka Nagaoka Ryousuke is on guitar on tracks 1, 2, 3, 7, 11 and 14 Hoshino Gen's new album.

(Kaasuke also plays drums on every tracks besides 6-10 and 13. And super unrelated, but Hosono Haruomi on bass on track 8 :P)

Is THIS why it sounds so goofy?

Uki on the new Soilpimp joint.

Ringo~Bingo (ver. 2) 2018.04.20 05:32 PM

Has Micky been seen (musically) since his applemilk ventures? Dude had legit solo albums then just fell off the planet. I haven't even seen him touring with other musicians or anything?

deadgrandma 2018.04.20 05:36 PM

Kameda realised who was better

zeroryouko 2018.04.20 05:40 PM

Wow, I was wondering how long it was going to take for the first Oomori > Ringo post, and I'd like to thank dg for coming through.

God, I missed this place. :P

Ringo~Bingo (ver. 2) 2018.04.20 05:45 PM

The Turtles Japan were better than Ringo tbh! :P

According to Google he last performed on Machico's single TOMORROW.

I know everyone is dying to know what Ukigumo is up to so here.

Ringo~Bingo (ver. 2) 2018.04.22 12:31 PM

Hahaha!

Tokyo Jihad 2018.04.25 01:28 PM

YYYYikes. At all this.

chestnutflowers 2018.04.25 02:17 PM

To be fair, Uki's been doing quite well for himself (questionable children's programming aside). He's probably earned a pretty penny from being Hoshino Gen's guitarist, particularly on his hit song Koi. Petrolz even managed to get a tribute album before Ringo.
All of them seem to be doing well actually except for Micky and maybe Hata; there isn't much info on the latter.

ecco27 2018.04.25 06:07 PM

I made fun of the kids show thing at first but it's not actually a bad gig, a lot of musicians have been on that show. I think Hata is doing ok, he was playing drums for RADWIMPS on tour.

Ringo~Bingo (ver. 2) 2018.04.25 09:46 PM

Those kids probs went harder than Ringo at her last gig!!!

chestnutflowers 2018.05.09 02:40 PM

I have no idea where to place this, but there was a mini Jihen reunion not too long ago:

Plus a crossover of sorts:

Lena-chan 2018.05.10 03:28 AM

Where?
What did they do?
I'm very uninformed O_O

chestnutflowers 2018.05.10 07:32 AM

I wish I could tell you, it's just something I found on Twitter.

Floating Clouds is featured on the latest Tomita Lab single.
Clouds

Not technically a Jihen member, but Cat Man was seen orchestrating for Suiyoubi no Campanella recently.

Again, not technically a member, but Uni Inoue produced the last Kinoko Teikoku album. This happened two years ago, but I know there are some Kinoko fans here.

Lena-chan 2018.07.30 08:30 AM

I was so blind by my bitterness over Ringo dumping Hirama that I never had the chance to appreciate Uki and his uniqueness, I guess I like him much more nowadays and I really look forward to see his future projects

OMG
that was fucking fierce!
What if Neko wasn't the problem with Ringo?!
I would love if HF was instead an album full of hatsukoi shoujo and oiran... maybe Ringo was the one not capable of composing enough songs, or maybe she was too much into jazz and classical pop to put out more electronic orchestrated songs

About Uni and Kinoko Teikoku, I had no idea O______O I really loooooooved that album!!!!

Ringo is most certainly the problem

Look at the work Neko did with Jun Togawa too...

Late i know but wasn't that the original plan? I thought Shiina sent some electronic demos to the director of Sakuran, who said they'd prefer to use Shiina's previous music? That's why we got the Baishou Ecstasy versions basically.

Lena-chan 2019.03.15 04:23 AM

So it's mika ninagawa's fault!!!!
O_____O

Ringo~Bingo (ver. 2) 2023.06.12 07:47 AM

Micky needs to let his hair grow out again. :(
