Who owns Shiina stuff?
I know the last thread was about where to find Shiina's merchandise, but I was wondering who actualy owns it?
Personal the only thing I own is the 平成風俗 (Japanese Manners) CD. I got it from Kinokuniya book store (in Uwajimaya) in Seattle, but it was 40$. Every thing else I just download (like 180 songs). 平成風俗 椎名林檎 × 斎藤ネコ |
Let's just say I own everything, and leave it at that.
|
I'm missing the 3 cd album release, dynamite out dvd (the legit copy anyways...), and kyoiku. Have everything else except the singles, of which i own only three (gibusu, tsumi, and honnou)
|
Shame for me.
I only have 2 of her legit copy which are HZ, and EM. My HZ DVD Is on it's way. And I will probably start buying all her legit cd starting next month since i just discovered a convinient way to buy on-line. But, for vynil, and stuff that hard to get except from Yahoo! Japan auction will have to wait. Since i haven't learn the way, and i can't read Japanese |
I've got HF, KSK, and Kyouiku in albums. Koufukeron [RR], Honnou, Tsumi to Batsu, Mayonaka wa Junketsu, Ringo no Uta, KYNK, Gunjou Biyori, Sounan in singles. Hyakuiro Megane and Ringohan in DVD.
I've got the HF LP and DVD on the way. |
Hmm, I'm still halfway done collecting. >_< But, this topic is a good way for me to keep a record. :D
Singles: Honnou, Gibusu, Tsumi to Batsu, Zecchoushuu, Mayonaka wa Junketsu, Ringo no Uta (CD+DVD), Gunjou Biyori, Sounan, Shuraba, Konoyo no Kagiri, OSCA (First Press), Killer Tune (First Press) (soon!) Albums: Shouso Strip, Kalk Samen Kuri no Hana, Adult (Pour Homme), Heisei Fuuzoku (First Press Limited Edition), Variety (First Press) (soon!) DVDs: Electric Mole, Dynamite Out!, Adult Video, Just can't help it. (First Press), Dai Ikkai Ringohan Taikai no Moyou, Heisei Fuuzoku Daiginjou (First Press Limited Edition) LPs: none, and maybe never o_o;; I don't plan on buying her works (like Zazen Boys or Mo'some Tonebener) although I would've liked to buy the Shoujo Robot single. ;_; |
Singles: Koufukuron 8cm, Kabukichou, Koko de Kiss shite, Koufukuron re-release, Honnou, Tsumi to Batsu 1st press, Mayonaka wa Junketsu, Stem 1st press x 2, Ringo no Uta, Gunjou Byori, Sounan, Shuraba, KYNK, OSCA, Killer Tune, ZCS,
Albums: MM, SS (1 regular and 1 limited w/ the sticker), KSK korean edition, Kyouiku, Adult (limited edition), HF (limited edition), Variety 1st press, Watashi to Houden 1st press DVDs: Sexual Healing 1, 2 and 3 (3 in first press), Gorikitsu Japan, Gekokujo Extasy, Electric Mole limited edition, Dynamite In, Dynamite Out (first press), JCHI, HF, Dai Ikkai Ringohan, Senkou Shoujo, Watashi no Hatsuden 1st press VHS: Sexual Healing 1 Books: Adult scorebook (just ordered the Best Selection Piano book and the WtH scorebook) Related artists: HMZ's Pianoize my life, Tomosaka Rie's rie tomosaka clips dvd (has the cappuccino and mokuren no cream pv) I also have the following in disc only: Kuki -Stem- single, Mayonaka single, Utaite Myori. My apartment got robbed a few years ago and they took a lot of CDs, but I was carrying the disks in a separate case for some of them so it turned out they stole a bunch of empty cases (and some precious stuff as well). Still, I use to have a lot more singles that I haven't bought back yet. I started my collection on Ebay, then moved on to YesAsia when I decided I needed the new stuff as it was coming out (from TJ on). I also used HMV and TokyoRecohan. Now my friends are going to Japan for 2 weeks and they have a list of the stuff I want (i.e.: pretty much everything that I'm still missing). I use this to keep track of my Japanese cd/dvd collection, it's not perfect but you can add the stuff that's missing. However, it's in French... but I thought they had an English version somewhere, I just can't seem to find it. |
um...i'm sort of a late fan. i've been listening since 2001... is that really late?
haha anyways, i started w 3 singles(honnou, tsumi to batsu, gibusu) that were given to me by a japanese exchange student after showing her the Gekokujyo Xtasy concert i had gotten. then, i bought utaite myori cd, tho i managed to lose both halves. i suck. i have the heisei fuzoku cd. also, i'm getting random dvds now....i'm playing catch up. when i first heard her, i was in high school and cardless so i couldnt quite get it all... ha. oh yea, i have the tokyo jihen stuff too... |

Wow I guess I'm a major minority among you guys. I just heard about Shiina last year, and cause I'm a jobless 17 year old I dont have much money.

But I still managed to buy her 3 latest albums: Kyouiku, Adult & HF. |
I own all the singles, all the albums, all the dvds, [the doujinshi (*harr*)], all the band score books, [a SR-Piano-Score-Book (mixed songs MM/SS-era)], one Sakuran-Promo-DVD (feat. 2 trailers with her songs) and at least 1 LP (Adult Video OST)
[these items] aren't officially licenced products |

I own every single album, two of the concert DVDs (Gekokujyo and Just Can't Help it), and only one of the singles (Mayonaka). I got into her stuff pretty late too (last year) but I just went nuts after first buying Shouso Strip and falling in love with that. Next Shiina-related purchase I make will probably be Dynamite Out.
|
^ wow, that's my collection exactly! Except substitute the Ringohan DVD for Gekokujyo. And I don't have Utaite Myouri, if we're counting that among the albums. But I have everything else, and I'm fairly content with that (tempted to get "Honnou" though, even though until Mayonaka I never purchased singles as a rule).
|
freckles, you should've gotten the singles while in Tokyo. They are really cheap at places like Bookoff... I got a few remaining ones from there.
|
Quote:
Where did you get all that stuff, we both live in Washington right, is there a special store or something? |
You shouldn't quote something that's going to change. :P
I bought my first 3 CDs (Shouso Strip, KSK, Kyoiku) off of YesAsia, then bought the rest of my regular releases off of CDJapan and some newer limited stuff there as it was coming out, snagged a couple of rares (Electric Mole limited, Dynamite Out! first-press, Mayonaka wa Junketsu LP) off of eBay, and got the rest of my older rares off of Yahoo! Japan Auctions, via Shopping Mall Japan, most of them during the last 6 months (haven't spent money on much else during this time). And no, I don't know how to read Kanji - I'm just resourceful and persistent. I also buy newer LPs from HMV Japan as they come out. I do my banking with Washington Mutual and they don't have any problem with me buying things from Japan with my debit card. I also don't earn much above minimum wage. I've heard of Uwajimaya many times and I've been meaning to check them out, but I've done the math and they're not as good for me (from a bulk buyer standpoint) as CDJapan is. If you're not buying very many CDs at a time, but buying at least two, then YesAsia will be slightly cheaper for you than Uwajimaya. |

Hey, where'd this thread come from?
Albums: MM, SS, UM, KZK, HF (special edition), Kyouiku, Adult (Pour Homme) Singles: Zecchou-shuu, Ringo no Uta, Gunjou Biyori (I bought this one by accident thinking it was Kyouiku, two months before Kyouiku was released  ) Random Stuff (which I didn't realize were pirated until after I bought them): Complete Singles (with songs by three other random artists at the end), Singles Collection (which turned out to be the same album, just without the other random songs ), MTV Live DVD (which is Seiteki Healing 1&2 and Hatsuiku Status Gokuritsu Japon -- the case has something in Chinese written on the back :D) |
I just have Honnou T_T
|
Whenever I see this topic I think of the song lyric "Who wears short shorts?"
|
Is there a deeper meaning behind those lyrics?? o_O
Hehehhe, Fluffie's purchases are so funny. XDD My Electric Mole DVD should be coming in the mail sometime this weeeeek!!!! >_< |
I began collecting on eBay until I had all her solo albums (this around the time TJ was formed). Then I began dropping the yen for every first press release from CDJapan since then (starting with Sounan).
I've only got physical copies of a few of her pre-TJ singles (maybe 4 or so). I pick them up occasionally from eBay. Like was mentioned above, when you already have everything in digital, it's hard to justify the price unless you're a hard-core collector. And, I bet I have one you don't, Glathannus! Some guy on eBay mislabeled his CD and I got the Ringo no Uta single when I thought I was getting the Electric Mole DVD... as a consolation he sent me a CD of his radio program where he'd played a bunch of SR stuff (mostly B-sides). ^-^ And, I've purchased probably 10 copies of KSK as gifts. |
Quote:
As I understand it, most of the Shiina Ringo compilations floating around are Taiwan bootlegs, but two oddball legitimate promo compilations from Japan (of mostly B-Sides) actually exist and I've seen them. Could be that's what you have, in which case it's far more rare than anything most fans here own. I'm still gloating over my zero-press Gips with the forbidden cover art, and the disc itself comes in gold instead of blue. It's part of a special double cardboard folding package with Tsumi to Batsu, but that other half of the set is nothing extraordinary. The set is a "Not For Sale" package branded by Toshiba-EMI Japan, and it's probably the rarest thing I've come across aside from Shiina Ringo audio cassette tapes. |

What's ?
|
That's a respectable collection there, krpov (aside from the three illegitimate discs).
It took me quite awhile to own at least that much, especially when playing catch-up on the older first-presses. Thumbs up on your first-press DVDs, because those are at least as rare as Electric Mole limited. I'm not sure if/when I'll actually be taking a snapshot of my entire collection in a single picture. |
Quote:
That be the second Shena Ringo product I ever bought. It's a bootleg of her first few singles and MM. I had no idea when buying it that it was a boot. |

I don't have the vinyls you've got, Glat. Or the VHS versions of her videos, though I've seen them in stores. I'm currently packing them all for a cross-country trip via UPS. They are being cushioned as if they were liquid nitro that would explode at the slightest impact. |
My collection is not big at all (for now!!), but I'm pretty proud of my TJ flag, bought in the Budoukan concert!

|
I probably have the least out of all you guys.

Yeah, it's the cover where she has the knife above her wrist instead of above the apple, and she has a sadistic smirk. This cover was never available on the retail CD (first-press or otherwise - I own both of those so I'd know). There's a poster for that Gips shot, but then again there's something crazy like three or four alternate Gips posters, of slightly different pictures that all look like they were from the same photoshoot. I don't own any of the posters yet though. It's hard to find one in good condition (after so many years) and for a decent price.
I got my promo double-package off of Yahoo! Japan Auctions, via Shopping Mall Japan. When all was said and done with closing price, shipping, and commissions, it cost me roughly $50 USD. But in the one year that I've scoured Yahoo! Japan Auctions for gems, I've only seen three of those for sale. Even more rare than a Where Is The Love LP (I've only seen four of those), or a Sweets for my SPITZ LP (I've seen five of those). ZCS audio cassettes are probably the rarest thing I own aside from HZM-autographed Electric Mole DVD of limited packaging. |
^^
That comes to mind.. Glath do you happen to know, did EMi release DO in audio cassette? Becouse i remember clearly that one of my olds friends many many years back then, had some cassettes in her home and one of them had the dynamite cover in it..And now years after i realised that it might have been Dynamite Out! So since you seem to know lot of things considering Shiina's releases, what do you think was it just a louzy bootleg pirated version of it or real official stuff... I mean if i would have realised this earlier....:whacko: but i guess it was a pirate since he was russian and well so.....yeah you get the rest of the story :D |
All of the audio cassettes are promos, and they've only been for solo-era Shiina Ringo. I've seen audio cassettes for Muzai Moratorium, Shouso Strip, ZCS, and some of the singles like Gips or Mayonaka wa Junketsu.
Once her career approached KSK, promos went dead for a bit (as far as I can tell), then they started back up in CD-only, for Ringo no Uta and La Salle de Bain - which strangely enough got their own separate discs. Electric Mole got nothing (that I've ever seen). The Phase 1 singles each got their own (complete with B-Sides) promo, and I'm not sure that Kyoiku got anything. When Dynamite rolled around, Dynamite In got a three-track promo CD, and Dynamite Out for a four-track promo CD. If there's an audio cassette, I haven't seen one, and I've scoured Yahoo! Japan Auctions for at least a year - where you can find pretty much anything if you're patient enough. I really do believe they discontinued with the audio cassettes before Tokyo Jihen started up. After around Shuraba/Adult, all subsequent promos have been individually watermarked CDs. Previous promo CDs (including the Dynamite ones) were factory-pressed - never unique or tracable to the individuals they were issued to. |
I could never bring myself to buy any of the PV compilations. Seems like a waste with youtube and veoh out there. There is one bootleg present that I bought from a Book Off near Gardena. :)
|
I can't figure out which one's the bootleg!! >_< And is there a special reason for the pattern in which you laid the CDs? o_o
|
the Ringo Jihen stuff is supposed to be roughly chronological or organized by era.
|
Oh, I thought you put it in a special shape or something. >_< Okay, I'm guessing the bootleg is the Shouso Strip CD. I think I read that the first press/limited edition came with a pink slip case over the regular black CD, and that looks like a digipak or something. @_@ *prepared to be wrong*
|
I got a twisted neck now, just cuz of you Shady.
I see that you have Micky's albums. Good for you! You've got a pretty decent collection. :) |
I own 3 copies of Shouso Strip, its kind of sad really. I have the regular non-first press from way back when I bought it for the first time before KZK came out. Then about a year and a few months ago I kept on seeing used first press editions in Book Offs all over so I ended up buying one. The coloring on those are all greatly varied and the condition is all over the place, so I searched around and found one in really good condition. Then me and Glanth kept on comparing collections and I got carried away and bought a sealed first edition SS from an auction site. I had no idea it was a promotional copy and not for sale until I opened it (there is a huge sticker on the back saying it is a final sample issue not for sale) and the actual cd and packaing is exactly the same minus "NOT FOR SALE" printed in a circle around the center of the cd.

For the products that still have stickers on them, have you actually kept them sealed? (including the products older than Variety) If you had more than one copy of some of those (like Dynamite Out!) then I could understand, but even *I* wouldn't keep my only copy sealed. Quote:
Here's what I won this morning, just as I was headed out the door for work. |
Ugh, seeing shady's HF makes me so angry that I pre-ordered and bought the regular edition of it when the Special Edition one was still available @_@.
Also, I've never seen a dvd like the Ringohan one and the gekokuyo ecstasy one in a regular jewel case. Is that common in japan? |
The bootleg is actually the Gekokujo dvd. It doesn't have the Toshiba EMI flying logo with the twinkly sound and goes straight to the menu when you pop it in a dvd player.
Book Off doesnt inspect the authenticity of the stuff they sell. There was a bootleg Hatsuiku Status there too. Its a hacked ISO rip or something because the image quality is perfect. Everything is unsealed. DO and Variety look sealed because I cut the plastic wrap on the sides with a razor just enough to let the case slip out and I saved the labels and obi for everything. I keep those tucked away in their cases. Sounds kinda crazy.:) The most foolish thing I've done was buy 3 LE versions of Shouso Strip piecing the disc, case, box, booklet, and obi from all 3 and trying to form one mint condition version from them, spending $50 total. Now thats crazy. I didn't even succeed. It was difficult finding a box in excellent condition. I didn't become a fan until KSK, years after its release, so it sucks I missed out on buying a new one. Congrats to Glathanus for finding a sealed LE SS! Collecting cassette tapes is too hardcore for me though. |
I guessed right?? ^_^

Besides Glathannus here, who else has the LP vinyl for KZK? I'm just wondering how hard this is to track down online or otherwise...?
|
Well...
Once upon a time, I didn't own the LP either, and I had an impossible time finding it through international markets. I asked the very same question, and no more than three people out of Ringo Jihen (our predecessor community - now closed), claimed they owned it - and one of them supplied personal photos. That was a bit discouraging, but eventually I came across Shopping Mall Japan. They're a 'deputy' service - a middleman to get you the things you want from Yahoo! Japan Auctions, that Japanese sellers aren't (for whatever reason) shipping internationally. It's actually not very difficult to get the KSK vinyl that way at all. It's only a question of, how much do you want to pay, or, how long do you want to wait for a lower-priced auction? The cheapest I've gotten away with is 2200yen for a sealed copy, and that's freakishly rare. What used to be the 'norm' (roughly six months ago), was the same seller kept unloading sealed copies for 3000yen each until they basically ran out, and most of those auctions wouldn't even get more than one bidder (I suspect people knew there was a continuous stream and they'd wait their turn). Nowadays the used copies sell for about that much, and the sealed ones sell for 4000-6000yen - this is if you don't want to wait, and it's the price range I encountered when I first started using Shopping Mall Japan. Whatever the auction scenario is, it's not going to involve eBay (or at least not more than once every few years), and you always have to take the fees into account when you use Shopping Mall Japan (in addition to your deposit). I've won mini-vinyls for 2500yen, and ended up paying around $41 USD after all the fees kicked in. The fees effectively go on a curve that's more favorable toward more expensive auctions, but they really sting if you win a lot of cheaper auctions. |

Albums/singles DVDs Tokyo Jihen stuff (I don't have updated pics on these). I'm missing pic of my Shuraba single, Adult album w/DVD first press (gotta love scratch and sniff), Eizo Sakuhinshu - Adult Video DVD and Adult album vinyl. That's strange. CDJapan usually gives out bonus stickers if there are any - I've received them with so many other CDs/DVDs (including the Sakuran movie). Oh well. Maybe fate was just screwing with me because it knew I was going to get a stack of 20 of those stickers in the end. :P I didn't even know they were associated with Just Can't Help It first-press. Thanks for clarifying. That makes more sense. I saw that auction (along with the same watermark you're showing off right now), and remember how marked up it was, like... $50 or $60 USD. I was speaking more about Yahoo! Japan Auctions, the premiere goldmine of Ringo nuggets.
|
^^ Do you have any SR posters? I saw a few of those flying around before.
|
I have the KYNK poster, and the Dynamite In/Out poster, and the Seteiki Healing Vol 1&2 poster. Ringo/Jihen posters related to DVDs are almost always disappointing to look at. The KYNK poster is nice though.
Posters are mostly last on my list of Shiina Ringo goods to pursue. There's a couple of heavy hitters who bid large everytime the same rare posters (like Honnou or anything from the Muzai Moratorium era) show up. I have my eye on a small handful of poster auctions already, but I'm also noticing the same abusive bidders I've seen before, and I'm gonna let the auctions go. Plus I've bought too many other rares lately, and my wallet isn't bottomless. For the price these same few folk will pay for one poster, you could buy several vinyls, and I haven't lost all my marbles yet, so I'm choosing my battles where I can win them. That's one thing about roaming Yahoo! Japan Auctions all the time. You start to profile some of the sellers and bidders, and you know which opportunities are around the corner, and which bidders are serious, and which bidders are scavengers (placing weak bids on many rare auctions at once - hoping a few will go unnoticed and slip through). I would never call a true collector a scavenger if they were low on funds and just doing what they can, but I've seen people who bid low all the time, then just relist the few items they win, for jacked up prices. They don't get away with that shit on my watch. ;) |
^you have so much stuff ^^ I haven't been collecting things in terms of music for awhile now. I've been spending money on something else (which burns even bigger holes in my wallet)
|
All the albums and a few of the DVDs.
I should take advantage of living in Japan, but CDs and DVDs are stupidly expensive here. |
How much is a CD over there in USD? I always wonder whether CDjapan jacks up the price because they are importing it or if it is just because CDs are expensive in Japan.
|
CDJapan certainly does not jack up CD prices. On the contrary, they charge the retail Yen price, and they remove the embeded sales tax if you're outside Japan, and that final price is converted straight from Yen to USD. Sometimes they charge even less than that.
Japanese CDs are simply more expensive on average to begin with, because their economy is so different. Even McDonalds food will cost 2-3 times more in Japan than it will in the United States. If anyone jacks up Japanese CD prices, it's YesAsia, so they can give you 'free' shipping, and Amazon.com USA, because they're batshit crazy if they think anyone will pay will pay $40 for Kyoiku. |
Yes! That is great to hear! Then it is pretty crazy that they do have to pay around $25 for an album @_@.
