Music buying habits
Just curious:
When it comes to music from artists that you already know and like, do you... 1. Buy it anyway without trying. 2. Find a way to sample it first (at the CD shop, download) before you buy the CD. 3. Download it free and not buy the CD at all, or maybe buy it two years later when you feel like it. 4. Buy digital versions from places like iTunes/eMusic/e-onkyo. I'm usually between 2 and 3.

I usually order the cd and download it before it arrives.

I usually pre-order it. There have been times when I can't afford it right then and there, so I try to wait until I can buy it, but if it will be too long before I buy it, then I download it and wait until I can buy it.

2 and 3 for the most part. There are exceptions though. I'd purchase anything released by Luna Sea without having to hear it first.

2-4 for me, I used eMusic for a while, it's nice but the regional limitations and the indie focus really hurts the site. it' hard 'discovering' one indie artist every month.
i save 1 for shiina (Even after Variety I'll preorder anything she puts out). Maybe for Faye Wong also, but I think it'll be awhile before she makes another cd. |

I used eMusic for a while too but found the selection to be rather limited, though it seems to be better now. I'd probably abuse their free 50 downloads thing if I ever want any music from them in future.

I usually go with #1, but that only when it comes to artists/band, that I REALLY like or if I find a really cheap offer.
The other option for me would be #3, which I try to avoid as much as possible. I did #2 a couple of times, but that's pretty unusual for me nowadays, cause I don't want to spoil anything. I only did #4 once, cause I found one single track, that I couldn't find anywhere else (that'd be the official remix of Mokuren no Cream, that's on rie's best of) |

I usually buy the CD's by the big artists I love sometimes before hearing them, unless a the album leaks. Everything else I download, and if I warrant it good enough to buy I usually buy it.
