Most popular Japanese female singers on Jpopsuki
Today I played with the search function on JPS. After sorting the female singers by the number of fans, these are the stats I got:
1. Perfume 1332 fans 2. YUI 1056 3. Ayumi Hamasaki 1001 4. Utada Hikaru 993 5. Namie Amuro 872 6. AKB48 827 7. Scandal 770 8. Koda Kumi 667 9. capsule 562 10. Kana Nishino 552 11. ikimonogakari 535 12. Kyary Pamyu Pamyu 533 13. Shiina Ringo 501 14. Nana Mizuki 463 15. Tokyo Jihen 429 16. Stereopony 424 17. supercell 410 18. Morning Musume 407 19. Do As Infinity 407 20. miwa 402 21. Ai Otsuka 379 22. ayaka 379 23. Maaya Sakamoto 319 24. Tommy heavenly6 313 25. Mika Nakashima 303 26. SKE48 300 27. Yuki Kajiura 293 28. alan 277 29. Hatsune Miku 274 30. school food punishment 263 I highlighted those artists that I own the CDs of, and I found out that I have never heard anything by these artists: Kana Nishino ikimonogakari Stereopony miwa ayaka Yuki Kajiura I'm surprised school-food punishment are ranked so high. Most popular singers from 80's such as Seiko Matsuda have less than 100 fans. Some not so famous bands such as Midori made it into Top 150. What do you think about this list? I like Namie Amuro's older stuff... Check out her "181920" singles collection. Some gems on there like "Can You Celebrate?", "Body Feels Exit", "Dreaming I was Dreaming".
Her first album, "Dance Tracks Vol.1" isn't too shabby either. Basically anything before she started down the hip hop path is pretty alright to me...

Oh no, no. That's such a horrible impression of Utada. That's when she tried to break into the US market a second time; sexualizing herself much more than her Japanese albums. That album...I'd rather pretend it didn't exist in her discography. The only song I like off of it is Apples and Cinnamon. Listen to Deep River, Ultra Blue or Heart Station. That's a much better representation of Utada.
