Her voice is for sure better and more controlled now. However, I miss that desperately straining for the high notes and not quite hitting it sound from the early days.

I think Her voice is still pretty similar, It justs sounds a bit more mature. Theres only really a slight notice of age maybe . But When I watched Ringo Expo 08, When she did her earlier songs it was nice to see she could still rape the notes, But with soo much control.

My favorite studio vocals of hers thus far have been on SS, Utaite Myori, and the Mayonaka wa Junketsu single. More controlled and mature than MM, but without the theatrics of "Phase 2" Ringo. However, my favorite live vocals typically come from the earliest performances, like the "In-store event" bootlegs and ZX. I'm on the fence about EM and DO. Sometimes I love the vocals, other times I feel embarassed I liked them so much in the first place. Case in point: "Mr. Wonderful" - brilliant on some days, weak on others.
I typically don't get much of an emotional response at all out of TJ/HF Ringo. JCHI is my least favorite performance of hers, vocally. Way too operatic, with zero feeling. I mean, even if it is all just story-telling from her perspective, there are songs she can pretend to feel more than others, I think. Maybe she's just kind of lost that sense of attachment to her songs that she used to portray. However, the new single/album has really got me stoked. I'm optimistic right now.
I'm really picky about her performances. I love them all to some extent, but sometimes I wonder if I love half of them only because I love Ringo being there.

Amen to that. It doesn't even sound like Ringo. Whenever I hear JCHI, it feels Twilight Zone-ish to me. Her voice is just.... unemotional. There are a few select performances (namely C'm'on Let's Go and Rakujitsu) that sound good vocally but everything else sounds so unlike her. It's like someone else took over Ringo's body. I generally refer to her as Ringa, Ringo's lesser known twin sister.

Ringo is eight in an Oricon poll of the sexiest voices.
(a bit unrelated to the topic...)

Women:
1. Aya Sugimoto
2. Koda Kumi
3. Miki Maya
4. Hitomi Kuroki
5. Rieko Miura
6. Ayumi Hamasaki
7. Kaori Momoi
8. Ringo Shiina
9. Yukie Nakama
10. Norika Fujiwara

Men:
1. Masaharu Fukuyama
2. Shosuke Tanihara
3. Hiro Mizushima
4. Akira Kawashima ( Kirin)
5. Hiroshi Tamaki
6. Gackt
7. Hyde
8. Jin Akanishi ( KAT-TUN)
9. Hiroshi Abe
10. Koshi Inaba ( B”z)

Ayumi, a sexy voice? Nakama Yukie has a funny voice. In some few songs, Ringo can sound very sexy...
I think the list is very random, and sometimes is more about the overall image than the voice itself.
