That might have something to do with Shuraba (single version) sounding more mainstream (by modern Japanese standards) than anything else Tokyo Jihen has ever pumped out aside from Senkou Shoujo. Can you imagine an anime that only features one or two songs from Tokyo Jihen, including the album version of Shuraba?

If Tale of Genji is only 11 episodes, then that is something to be more optimistic about. I suppose the next point of curiousity is, who is responsible for the uhhh, the ED? (sounds like Erectile Dysfunction).

Maybe MM sounds like Mental Masturbation? And SS sounds like Super Sex?
Ok, but seriously, I thought those acronyms were main-stream:
OP = Opening Theme; ED = Ending Theme.

Songs for animes are not always bad, god knows Sobakasu always brings a smile to my face.

My expectations are tempered because the quality of Shiina's composition for other artists have always been on a lower level than the songs she writes for herself.

I'm always hopeful though. I'm flawed in that way...

i have to disagree with you, cjhobbies00

ikenai ko is one of my favorite songs of her, and uh, nipon ni umarete was probably one of the most awesome lives I've ever seen Ringo to perform

I've never actually heard ikenai ko, didn't even know it existed.

Nihon ni Umarete was awesome in Zazen, but she really raised her game in that performace, she brought the song up to her level. The original ver. was nowhere near as good.

Not trying to go off topic, but: I was about to mention that this is in the wrong forum, and then I see this:

Main Forum
News, speculation, memorabilia, favorite songs, etc.
How do you distinguish between the two when posting a news item?

Anyway, Puffy AmiYumi are the shit. Shiina plus Puffy is probably going to equal something either really good, or bad, though.

dramatic and fugainaiya by YUKI were both OP songs to an anime, Honey and Clover.

there is no shame in having your music used for an anime. Shuraba was picked by the producers of the show when they went through ringo's catalogue looking for potential music to work and even ringo herself was surprised they picked that one. they head a demo and while I'm sure it was different, I really don't think she altered it too much for that purpose.

as for this puffy song, I'm sure Ringo has a back catalogue of music, I'm not entirely sure this is "new" material, she is a song writer, she composes HUNDREDS of songs that never hear the light of day, I'm sure, and she was probably approached and out of the material she showed they picked it, etc. As for it being the opening song for an anime, they probably did a rough demo of it and were approached and they heard that one and it was picked. this is all speculation, but I HIGHLY DOUBT that Puffy hired Ringo to write a brand new song specifically for them to use as an anime opening, that just seems a bit off.

and there is nothing wrong music for anime, a lot of very respected artists have composed for anime and it doesn't cheapen the 'artistic' value to me at all, who cares, like what you like, who cares if its in anime or not.

We didn't have compilation/arranged albums of material we had already heard from her before, remasters (except for Koufukuron), and Superstar v3.0 (more commonly known as "Shiseikatsu").

At this time of Shiina Ringo's career, I'm not optimistic about this single. The fact that it's being featured as an anime intro, makes me all-the-more cynical about it. It's not that I look down on anime just for being anime, but let's face it - not every anime project breaks the mold like Cowboy Bebop did, by featuring one great musician for the overall soundtrack, while the guest musicians get casually sprinkled throughout the middle, rather than rubbed in your face.

When an anime gets so long that it has to be broken up into seasons, and the opening/closing compositions have no connection to the other music between while producers cycle through one (usually overrated) musician after another... I can't take that kind of 'art' seriously - neither the music nor the anime. It wreaks of manufacturing and milking.

It's not an accomplishment that pe'zmoku recently got featured on Bleach, when the number one reason is because their vocals are just as annoying as all the other bands who have been included in that series.

That's what I'm afraid of about this PUFFY single. That it's being featured in an anime intro with no connection to the rest of the music because it somehow "fits the profile" of what the anime producers think the anime fans want to hear. The emphasis is on the music being acceptable more than the music actually being good.

Sorry to shit all over everyone's parade. You heard the gloomy forecast here first.

PE'ZMOKU is in an anime? :-(

Puffy.....I guess its better than morning musume. It was probably more embarrassing listening to a tokio song on repeat. and yes it did sounds just like killer tune. Actually I heard the song on the radio without knowing what it was and instantly knew it was the song I had heard about even though I had never heard Tokio before.

PS the singer of Tokio....that voice DOES NOT come out of that face, no way. Makoto!?
