Ok, so having finally had a chance to listen to that YouTube clip, I've really gotta hand it to both of them. Musically it's nothing really new, of course, but it sounds to be a solid Ringo song of the sort we all know and love, and have been sorely missing for a while now. Megumi, meanwhile, has never sounded so good, and I have to believe that Ringo's influence made an impact there as well. Of course it's difficult to make a final judgment from a clip like this, yada yada, but still this is far better than I'd hoped.

Saw the first episode. I don't regret dropping 48 minutes of my time on it. Learned a little about rakugo and find the concept appealing, though I'm not familiar with mid-'60s Japan so I can't say if the setting was faithfully represented. Lovable goofball, hardened orphan girl, and old man with internal demons are all well-trodden tropes but they come together nicely in the debut. Can't wait to see the backstory of the master and his former compatriot in episode 2.
Seki Tomokazu and Yuu Kobayashi are always solid choices for voices (alongside Hayashibara later on of course), and the part of Studio DEEN with actual consistency and talent can cobble together a compelling atmosphere if given the chance, so I'm glad Ringo's an associated act. Looks promising for a josei manga adaptation, especially a non-BL one. tl;dr showa genroku rakugo shinjuu: 5/7 pilot Last edited by Positron : 2016.01.09 at 03:42 PM. |

The first episode has no opening theme, and uses Usurai Shinju for the ending. Maybe the second episode will use it...

(I'm going to continue this here, in an effort to try to keep things where they belong. Although I fear it may be a losing battle...)
Also, where are you seeing the other song?

Thank you for the link! Woah. This is great. Exactly what a collab between them should sound like
