I guess what with the decision not to use kanji, they wanted to keep it katakana like their name "Maboroshi" is, so the wordplay is a little more pronounced. マボロシの死 just wouldn't seem as clever and playful. More morbid, almost. |

settling this once and for all, I received my copy of this today and on the back is a tombstone with maboroshi's death date (day of cd release) and the booklet is full of quite amusing pictures of them dead.

I really liked the album, highlight was definitely あまいやまい feat.椎名林檎 but
loved なんとかなんのさ (Jazz piano very much ftw). ワンモアヴァース and 日本の親父 昭和の親父 feat.KOHEI JAPAN were pretty good too, have to check out their back catalogue now. |

my favorite after amai yamai is 記念日. I love the way it starts and like the contribution by Sowelu.
@ frecklegirl, I hope you see this but I was looking at your translation and one part caught my eye: 動悸、痺れ、息切れ、こりゃ軽くないな your translation is: palpitations, numbness, shortness of breath, see here, it’s nothing major which is good but the last half, the こりゃ軽くないな part seems a bit off. 軽い in this sense means light, minor, unimportant, trivial but I don't think he is saying it quite as you translated, I don't think he is asking a rhetorical question or looking for affirmation, as the negative in this sense might be interpreted, almost like "hey, isn't this just trivial?" rather, I think the translation is him actually saying "see here, this is serious" meaning that the disease he is suffering from is a big deal. when the whole song is this play on sweet disease and he is pretty much listing all these physical symptoms he is suffering from it wouldn't make sense for him to brush it off and say it isn't a big deal and then go on to ask for new drugs and list more symptoms and the like. Oh lol. In this case I completely ignored the fact that it was a negative. And I just translated it as if he had said it's "karui" not "karuku nai." Complete oversight on my part; you're right that it of course doesn't make sense considering the rest of the lyrics. Lol so that explains things. It's fixed! Thanks so much XD I can't believe I missed that.

phew! I was hoping you wouldn't be upset that I was questioning the translation. I do read your translations from time to time. in fact, I never bothered to even read the amai yamai lyrics until now, XD, good job with the translation, the karukunaina part was the only thing I noticed, which is impressive considering the lyrics to this song are kind of weird. although rikaichan makes translating from goo SOOOOO easy, it literally takes like 5 minutes to unravel a ringo song now XD

I always use Rikaichan as my translation tool! But it does sometimes lead to oversights like this, where you're so focused on its translation that you forget the adjective is in the negative or something.

I don't know the dude's name, but I know now that he's a core member of Maboroshi, and he isn't just a studio musician.
Turns out he's the only other member of the band (aside from Mummy D) who you'll consistently find in their PVs, plus he's in the Ryuukou PV. He's also put on some really great live performances with Maboroshi, predating any collaboration with Shiina Ringo. He's the reason why the band can get into rock festivals. If he wanted to leave Maboroshi, I'm absolutely convinced there would be no more Maboroshi.
