Any big time Urbangarde fans around?
Theyre the band that's always been there but I've never been able to get into fully. Anyway. I bring them up because their new album, SHOWA 90 is pretty fucking INSANE (in the whole "INSANE JAPANESE!" way). However, there's legit talent behind the insanity and it really shines through on most tracks. I feel the WTF element may be easier to absorb if I had a bit more of a concept/explanation behind this new album- it seems to have a theme or story behind it??? Anyone into the band know anything extra to add some context to it? Thought I'd throw it out there. Otherwise, if you're looking for something pretty intense and batshit right now, SHOWA 90 is the album for you!

So, Showa Year 90 is basically saying "2015," except the Showa Period (In Japan, there is a way of numbering years in accordance with the number of years a particular emperor has been in rule, I'm ashamed that I'm not more well-versed on the matter than that. (background on Showa Period here))
I haven't listened, but it sounds to me like it may have been made with the concept of "what if the present day linearly followed that time?" And given that it's Urbangarde, the lyrical and visual content probably deals with concepts like nostalgia for simpler times, love and despair, youth, freedom, violence/death, purity/sex, likely with visual or conceptual references to war, apocalypse, suicide, and/or imperialism. These seem to be ideas that they include in all of their work. The singles and videos leading up to it were pretty good.

Thanks for that, I kinda had an idea of that being what they were going for with the whole SHOWA title
Anyway, incorporated that tiny bit of info into my review https://deadgrandmablog.wordpress.co...arde-showa-90/

Don't know if anyone here listens to Paris Match? 11 was one of the boringest releases of the year. Thought the hiatus would help but neither has their heart in it anymore. Even the brass sounds tired.

Radiohead's dumped SPECTRE song is way better than Sam Smith's bullshit https://soundcloud.com/radiohead/spectre
