Me too, but I've already seen the video, and it's really amazing. One of the best Conan performances ever.

No, but I'm not a traditional Hikki fan. I think Distance is her only really great album.

nah, I think her first two albums, while having some catchy songs, are mostly crap. it wasn't until her more recent albums that she actually developed a style and a vision, I mean can you name another artist that has anything that sounds like Passion? Heart Station was mehhhh but Ultra Blue was completely solid.
as for Utada United, there are some good songs mixed in, but the vocals and general production shreds it all up. The problem is I think she isn't writing from her heart for the english community, I think she is being produced too much to make a successful crossover and that just fucks the entire thing up. |

I'm wit Maou...After Deep River Utada hasn't really done anything for me. She combined R&B with Jpop elements and catchy melodies in her early career, but I haven't heard anything from her recently that's on par with that early output.

she has done a complete reworking of her sound, so if you prefer the earlier sound I can see why you wouldn't like Ultra Blue or Heart Station. The problem I have with her first two albums is that they sound so dated, in terms of Utada I'm not always entirely sure who is responsible for the sound and I definitely see that time period as her being heavily influenced by the industry and her producers, while the music she is making nowadays is more or less what she wants, she has said pretty much that herself, and I personally think some of her recent songs like Beautiful World are much better than her earlier work.

The Pillows - Lesser Hamster in Blue
I finally got around to ripping my Lostman Go to Yesterday CD's (after like a year), the difference between the 1411 bit rate against my old 128 bit rate discography is incredible! the older ones sounded muffled so it's good to hear them as good as this! |
