Green Day - 21st Century Breakdown

Another band I grew up on. Wasn't a huge fan of American Idiot (the album); overproduced and overplayed. I'm just fed up with it. This sounds OK upon first listen. I really like the breakdown half way through, but I'd prefer they went back to short and sharp pop-punk songs and not unnecessarily long "epics" that just grate after a few listens, particularly when they're on the radio 24/7.

I haven't paid any attention to Green Day in awhile, because last I noticed - they became emo. I dunno if American Idiot went deeper into Emoville because I never dared to try it out. I live equidistant between two of the most emo-producing cities in the region, so neither one of their cultural gravitational fields can pull me in.

Currently Listening To:
Nobuo Uematsu - Eidolon Wall

I wouldn't really say American Idiot was Emo. It was still very much pop-punk, and it wasn't Emo lyrically. It was maybe a tad more commercial and maybe Emo-like in their attempts to stretch their songs into unnecessary epics but they certainly still sounded more like Green Day of old than the standard Emo band. They're heading more toward standard alternative rock than either their punk routes or Emo though.

Since I almost never pay attention to lyrics, it annoys me when a vocalist spams a lot of consecutive syllables out in the same tone, and trails off on the last syllables of each passage with a personality that sounds like a less fucktarded version of Chris Griffin. My favorite artists tend to create the composition first, then afterward create lyrics that are based on the composition and try very carefully to fit the lyrics into the song without bending the melody or the rhythm to accommodate the lyrics. Emo music often has the lyrics and the composition created independently of each other, and neither is bent for the other - they are just simply a twisted combination.

Currently Listening To:
Jimi Hendrix - Hear My Train A Comin' [Berkeley Community Theatre, Berkeley, CA, May 30, 1970]

I don't know, I can't get into the guy. I saw him in this tribute to Georgeous Harrison ford and his playing was amazing so i asked my professor to show me an album of his with badass guitar work like that. She recommended Purple Rain. I still haven't listened to it, but in class, she played some songs for me on her lap top, including little red car, and it didn't seem my style. But I'll wait til I listen to purple rain before i decide.

This is the video:

While My Gitaa Gently Weeps

Anybody knows who is the second guy that sings? I can't stand his vocals. (The user who uploaded the vid to youtube has a badass name =P). Prince's so low is ridiculous.....

^ I love Spectacle as well, it's one of the less obvious gems on the album.
