Lords of Shadow blows it's like a 3rd rate action game with the Castlevania name added just to help sales! lousy boss battle which tries so hard to be Shadow of the Colossus but fails hard and lacks any epic (just boring).
Gaming is meant to be fun, Castlevania is not that. |

Disagree. True it's no Ninja Gaiden Black, Bayonetta, or God Hand. However, it gets much better after Chapter 2. The first 2 chapters feel like an unnecessary extended tutorial. After that, you get more moves, the atmosphere picks up (especially in the Vampire Dark Lord's castle), and no more lame Colossus battles. I played on and off for 9 hours yesterday while watching college football.

You fought that golem who literally repeated his stupid pattern of arm slam then throws boulder? that was a complete embarrassment. I'm just not feeling it. This is Castlevania's first foray into the next gen yet it's subpar to those other games you mentioned! utterly unacceptable. If you are making a game why would you make one that is worse than the competition? it's a let down and just average.
Maybe Konami should have developed it themselves instead of having a Spanish team with next to no track record make it for them! you hear Kojimas name being mentioned but his role was a light one at best. I suspect this game was just another action adventure game for a good while then Konami came in and offered them the rights to call it Castlevania so that they could save costs on development and they (Mercury Steam) could have their game published with the best possible chance of getting high sales. I expected a game of SotN's calibre brought into the 3d relam yet all I've got is another God of War style game. Mainstream gaming is really on the slide these days. |

Oh, I'm not trying to say Lords of Shadow is a great game. I just thought "blows" was too harsh when "very average" would suffice. It's a decent action game, but it is not a Castlevania game. Sure it uses several names (Cornell, Carmilla, Death, Veros Woods) from Castlevania lore, but Mercury Steam used very little classic designs.
The music is what annoys me the most. I don't mind fully orchestrated music, but the music in the game is mostly just for ambiance. That doesn't work for me in a Castlevania title. The soundtrack needs more full, haunting songs and more classic tracks. Can you believe the only classsic track to make it into the game is Vampire Killer? Bloody Tears gets referenced, but that's just not enough.
David Cox of Mercury Steam said the main inspiration for LoS was Super Castlevania 4. I don't see it at all.

Next week finally Fallout: New Vegas, and the week after that my last hope for the game of the year:
Deadly Premonition. I'm still totally excited for this game.

Anybody played Vanquish yet? preordered from Zavvi and it never actually turned up (still processing apparently?).
I'm left to play Legaia on the PS1 that while having nice 3D graphics, is actually utter shit. |

I played and enjoyed the demo, but I need to buy Rock Band 3 (with keyboard) and Fable III next week. I'll buy it eventually though, I'm sure. I really wouldn't recommend Zavvi though if you want your game quickly. I've been reading horror stories online for a while now. My friend pre-ordered Dead Rising 2 with them and it took 2 weeks to arrive.

I'm not buying RB3 in the next time, but I plan to buy a 1000€ e-drumkit. I even heard it would be able to attach that to the XBox with an adapter to play RB with it. That would be ultimately awesome.
Currently I'm playing Fallout New Vegas. I wondered from the beginning why my framerate (PC) was so low in this game, since Oblivion and Fallout 3 always ran completely smooth on my system, even with good portion of mods installed. So today I went to newvegasnexus to check the mods out that are created thus far, and what do I find? a 5k dll file that I just have to put into my folder without even replace anything and hooray, my framerate almost tripled, and there no drop in certain scene anymore. I already heard that New Vegas is bugged as hell, but I have to say, I still have experience even ONE. But this framerateproblem is indeed extremely stupid, and something that should not be included in the vanilla version of ANY game. One thing that I already like about the game is the Hardcore mode. It isn't as much hardcore as it's always presented to be, I rather think it's a integral part of the game. It gives you a more realistic feeling of traveling a wasteland, on the other hand since you can find food and water basically EVERYWHERE, it's not much of a hassle. I think it really adds to the atmosphere. Also, I have no played the game for at least 10 hours, and I haven't even been to New Vegas yet xD. Doubt I will be in the next time.
