Oh god. If there is ANYTHING I hate more, it is making something "ironic" (but not really ironic) to be "artistic".
"I made something shitty but it's actually really artsy because it's ironic!" The internet killed true "irony" years ago. Shiina Ringo = Hipster? EDIT: I'm so sorry I forgot to thank you, Nimh! Thank you so much! Last edited by TurtleFu : 2011.05.01 at 05:27 PM. |

Shiina Ringo is too hip to be a hipster. She's a cool cat.

No, but plenty about the single, the videos for the single, working habits, Hata, the earthquake, and reflections on Sports and Ultra C.
I'll read in more detail but there's no big "let's talk about the album and tour" section of the interview. |

But that doesn't make too much sense - during the Ultra C tour she has had costume changes as well, being the last one (which looked like a ballet dress) not what a mature woman would wear, precisely.
By the way, she still looks great in that kind of costumes, I'd say she's overreacting or, better said, early-reacting to the passing of time. |

and thus the paradox.
is it not the quandary of adolescence that prompts teenagers to do this or not do that? If Ringo is caught up in writing music that is intentionally unlike the work she had created in MM/SS eras, she hasn't really changed. Isn't it arguable that she was freer back then, when making music was enjoyable and she did as she pleased? It seems not a single interview goes by where she doesn't get asked or talk about having to escape this previous image of herself that forever seems to hunt her. When I think of adults and maturity I think of people who aren't necessarily upset by revealing their immature sides. when I think of immature teenagers I think of kids with these trumped up notions of maturity and importance. its kind of sad, I wish Ringo would just make music to make music, to experiment and create, and not intentionally set out to write things that are purposefully NOT this and NOT that, etc. it probably explains why most of us stopped caring a while back. |
