Mind's Made Up

I just watched the movie ONCE... And this is my favourite song from that film. If you care about music I think you would enjoy the movie too.

Oh gee golly how I wish I was listening to something right now, but I forgot to bring my ipod with me. Something tells me I'd be listening to:

The Smashing Pumpkins - Thirty-Three

Nelly Furtado - Mi Plan

this album is freaking amazing. I go through my phases with Nelly, I was a fan during Whoa, Nelly! and then Folklore was a bit too difficult for me to digest at my age when it was released. That album was very much about the energies she was feeling while pregnant and reclaiming her ethnicity after such a white-wash breakout. Loose was then very much a total 180 towards something sexy and hip and a complete disappointment for most Nelly fans. I enjoy some of the songs but they lack that soul and energy her other music has. She is one of the few pop artists who is actually crafting worthwhile pop music, so that was kind of sad. I think that album almost made me stop following her. At any rate, the new album is amazing. She said she hit a wall while writing in English and she got together with Alex Cuba, a friend and the young new face of Cuban music, and they wrote a whole bunch and it she noticed it was all in Spanish. She grew up singing in Portuguese and started speaking Spanish around 13 and recorded some songs in Spanish for other artists, like a song she did for Juanes, Fotographia, so this was a natural progression for her. The entire album feels so natural and breezy, like the songs just feel out of the heavens fully formed and ready for singing. the album is full of contributions from lesser known artists in the English speaking world, but huge names in the Latin community (like Julieta Venegas) and it just adds that much more flavor to their respective tracks. the end result is something entirely unlike Loose, more of a return to her roots, but yet not treading back towards Folklore or Whoa, Nelly. Part of me hopes she continues to write in Spanish. Perhaps Portuguese is next?

definitely check out the title track "Mi Plan"
